Plan Emerges for Democrats to Install Gavin Newsom as President without an Election

A new plan is being reported that would allow Democrats to install California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) as president without an election.

The Hill published a possible plan that could propel Newsom directly to the presidency, without giving the American people a say in the matter.

The plan was outlined by former Pentagon and White House official Douglas MacKinnon.

MacKinnon, who worked under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush in the eighties and early nineties, revealed that Newsom could pass by Vice President Kamala Harris.

However, the plan earned an enthusiastic thumbs down from FiveThirtyEight statistician Nate Silver.

“The competition is fierce but this is a top 5 worst political take of all time,” Silver said.

The plan MacKinnon described was simple and would start with Democrat President Joe Biden replacing Harris with Newsom as VP.

Biden could then resign, leaving Newsom seated comfortably in the Oval Office.

The simple move would see Newsom installed in the White House, without an election and the wear and tear from an actual campaign.

Despite the plan being simple, MacKinnon noted, the situation was quite complicated.

First, he notes that the expected “Red Wave” failed to materialize as a result of Tuesday’s midterms elections.

MacKinnon argues that the results were down to either “Trump fatigue” or plain vanilla hatred of the 45th president.

However, he said that, what could have been channeled into massive gains for the Democrats, was tempered by the fact that voters just don’t like Biden (or Harris) much either.

“As long as [Trump] is still considered a potentially viable candidate for 2024, or a political force by the Left, that fatigue and hate will be enough to drive many Americans to the polls to vote against any Republican,” MacKinnon continued, positing that Biden was only as strong as his potential Republican opponent was weak.

But he said that he didn’t believe Trump is likely to run which, according to MacKinnon, means Democrats would have to be prepared to face a “stronger” ticket.

Although he did expect a fair amount of protracted drama surrounding his potential “announcement” scheduled for November 15.

The ticket MacKinnon believes is likely — and strong — includes Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and possibly former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.

“What Tuesday’s voting demonstrated is that our country is still equally divided and deeply polarized, with no political healing on the horizon,” MacKinnon wrote.

“That reality speaks to the need for a proven vote-getter with lots of money and a logistical machine behind him.

“In Politics 101, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) meets — maybe even exceeds — those qualifications.”

MacKinnon offered two possible routes that Newsom could take to the White House, and neither required him to win a Democratic primary or a general election without the power of White House experience behind him.

Not only that, but he argued it would be “political malpractice” for the Democrats to not at least consider this option.

“In one scenario, Biden could ask Harris to resign and replace her with Newsom, who then becomes the heir apparent for 2024,” he said.

“Or Biden could replace Harris with Newsom and then resign himself, making Newsom the president before 2024 and arming him with the full force of the Oval Office.”

Whatever plan the dims cook up, you can bet Obama will be behind it. His choice will the president and it will be one of his “cabinet”.

The only qualifications I see are hair and teeth.

We’re not a democracy. Under the constitution, it’s perfectly legal.

Trump is their plausible deniability for the cheating. With the republican establishment as accomplices heaving Trump under the bus.

I’d hate to see her, anyone hurt but it sure wouldn’t be the first time something like that’s been done

Now that Master Beto is done, someone needs to fill the “Kennedyesque” slot. Here comes the Godfather of “Gay” “Marriage”.

Ford dumped VP Rockefeller as running mate in favor of Bob Dole, IIRC (or did Rocky just quit on his own?).

And if she was confirmed despite everything you mentioned, the Dems would lose their senate tie breaker and the GOP House would never vote to confirm the replacement.

Replacing the Vice President requires a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

Interesting... Peter Doosey just reported Biden called it a day in Indonesia (9pm). Biden did come in contact with a president who had covid. They are not saying what is wrong with him but Doosey said he is missing a state dinner and that is something Biden loves to attend. Doosey seems to think he may be sicker than they want to admit.
