What’s Really Behind Trump Lashing Out at Gov DeSantis and Gov “Young Kin” After Midterm Elections?
100%FedUp ^ | Nov 11, 2022 | Amber Crawford

Posted on 11/12/2022 7:56:35 AM PST by SoConPubbie

After most of the midterm elections concluded, Donald Trump turned to the social media platform Truth Social to criticize Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who many speculate will be competing with Trump for the GOP nomination in the 2024 presidential election. He also targeted Virginia Governor Glenn Younkin (R), who could throw his hat in the ring for the presidential elections as well.

On Thursday, Trump posted a lengthy message on Truth Social, nicknaming DeSantis “DeSanctimonious.” He diminished DeSantis’ handling of Covid and insisted that he is responsible for the Republican governor’s success. Trump said,

“Now that the midterms are over, and a success…

NewsCorp, which is Fox, the Wall Street Journal, and the no longer great New York Post (bring back Col!), is all in for Governor Ron DeSanctimonious, an average REPUBLICAN Governor with great Public Relations, who didn’t have to close up his State, but did, unlike other Republican Governors, whose overall numbers for a Republican, were just average – middle of the pack – including COVID, and who has the advantage of SUNSHINE, where people from badly run States up North would go no matter who the Governor was, just like I did!

Ron came to me in desperate shape in 2017 – he was politically dead, losing in a landslide to a very good Agriculture Commissioner, Adam Putnam, who was loaded up with cash and great poll numbers. Ron had low approval, bad polls, and no money, but he said that if I would Endorse him, he could win. I didn’t know Adam so I said, “Let’s give it a shot, Ron.” When I Endorsed him it was as though, to use a bad term, a nuclear weapon went off. Years later, they were the exact words that Adam Putnam used in describing Ron’s Endorsement. He said, “I went from having it made, with no competition, to immediately getting absolutely clobbered after your Endorsement.” I then got Ron by the “Star” of the Democrat Party, Andrew Gillum (who was later revealed to be a “Crack Head”), by having two massive Rallies with tens fo thousands of people at each one.

I also fixed his campaign, which had completely fallen apart. I was all in for Ron, and he beat Gillum, but after the Race, when votes were being stolen by the corrupt Election process in Broward County, and Ron was going down ten thousand votes a day, along with now-Senator Rick Scott, I sent in the FBI and the U.S. Attorneys, and the ballot theft immediately ended, jus prior to them running out of the votes necessary to win. I stopped his Election from being stolen. And now, Ron DeSanctimonious is playing games! The Fake News asks him if he’s going to run if President Trump runs, and he says, “I’m only focused on the Governor’s race, I’m not looking into the future.” Well, in terms of loyalty and class, that’s really not the right answer…

This is just like 2015 and 2016, a Media Assault (Colusion!), when Fox News fought me to the end until I won, and then they couldn’t have been nicer or more supportive. The Wall Street Journal loved Low Energy Jeb Bush, and a succession of other people as they rapidly disappeared from sight, finally falling in line with me after I easily knocked them out, one by one. We’re in exactly the same position now. They will keep coming after us, MAGA, but ultimately, we will win. Put America First and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

On Friday morning, Trump posted about Youngkin, pointing out how much he helped the Virginia governor win the election, and how Youngkin “couldn’t have come close to winning” without his help.

“Young Kin (now that’s an interesting take. Sounds Chinese, doesn’t it?) in Virginia couldn’t have won without me. I Endorsed him, did a very big Trump Rally for him telephonically, got MAGA to Vote for him – or he couldn’t have come close to winning. But he knows that, and admits it. Besides, having a hard time with the Dems in Virginia – But he’ll get it done!”

“Problem is, it’s way to early, and it really turns people off that aren’t due-hard Trumpanistas.”

I have worn my MAGA ballcaps just about every day for six years but his lies and threats to DeSantis do not sit well with this Floridian.

And now Trump is sucking up to Rubio.

You are way off base.

I have to believe it’s just Trump’s way of going Scorched Earth. He knows it’s over, because this was his last stand. The GOPe won.

My reading of that is, Trump feels if he can't be President, no Republican can. But, maybe that is not what you inteded to say, it just seems to fit what we're seeing is maybe why I read it that way. Feel free to clarify, if needed. Thanks.

I am wondering if this is intentional from Trump.
A way of separating himself from the other MAGA politicians (as some sort of safety cover for them).

Personally I believe that Donald Trump is frustrated. Imagine winning a presidential election and having it stolen right from under you, in plain sight. Either of us might ‘lash out’ too.

They will pick the early primary states that will be the least favorable for Trump to win.

Right. National polls don't matter. The Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primaries matter and they can be a real pain for Trump.

Trump hails from the world of World Wrestling. It’s in his blood to be combatitive and annoying.

He is lashing out at the wrong people. A bad move.

The GOPe needs to be taken down, by hook or by crook. My hope is DeSantis will help in that effort, just as Reagan worked to get rid of the Rockefeller Republicans as California governor. But it will take time.

I imagine both DeSantis and Youngkin are just sitting back and hoping that he keeps doing it.

Possibly, but don't underestimate how much damage the attacks from Trump may actually be doing to them, especially DeSantis.

Trump still wields immense political power, rising to an almost god-like figure in some of his supporter's minds. There are many here posting that they used to like DeSantis, but now that Trump has come out against him, they are now fully against him and behind the scenes looking for every piece of dirt they can find.

It's unfortunate, but when Trump presents this "No one else shall come before me" persona, then in the minds of his followers anything that even potentially stands in his way has to be destroyed as a false idol.

So Trump is hugely damaging DeSantis and Youngkin within the ranks of the Trump diehards, some of which would actually be needed to ever win a general election, even if DeSantis or Youngkin don't even run until 2028.

Therefore, my guess is, they'd prefer Trump to knock it off and focus on the Democrats instead.

What’s Really Behind Trump Lashing Out. . . ?

Trump's ego. He is a petty narcissist.

Not really. To continue to advance, DeSantis is going to have to make compromises. That is if he wants to move beyond the state of Florida. When he starts making compromises, the base will draw their knives. Much like many of them are doing to Trump now.

If DeSantis has presidential ambitions, he’s going to need swing voters and moderates. When he starts courting them, the knives will come out.

I saw the same thing happen to GWB.

Trump isn’t a politician. So, he never had to please anybody but himself and his base. He didn’t need the GOP or their mega-donors. He made the media need him.
In spite of all that, the knives now seem to be coming out for him.

Fair point, but that was inevitable anyway if DeSantis or Youngkin chooses to run against Trump. I suppose there's a chance that Trump will play the "good sport" and would endorse DeSantis or Youngkin in the general elections, but they obviously can't count on that.

But I do think that Trump so clearly sabotaging himself will lead to fewer Trump supporters sitting home in the general election. It would be worse if Trump wasn't inflicting wounds on himself, and they had to run negative campaigns against him. This way, they can at least just talk about their own visions, and let his own conduct make the necessary contrasts. As is apparent on here, there are some people who were pretty much in Trump's corner who have flipped because of this.

Very interesting, just out today. Thanks for sharing.

So, this appears to allow DeSantis supporters to start pooling money for him to run for President, without DeSantis having to commit to running, or be affiliated with it in any way. It doesn’t say anything about the year 24 either, so it could actually be intended for whenever it may happen, including 28. Trump and his supporters will be outraged, I’m sure, especially if/when DeSantis continues to keep his cards close to his chest.

folks are so willing to dump on Donald so quickly

Quickly? It's been the Donald Trump show for well over 6 years now. There is no reason to continue to put up with temper tantrums and incompetence.

That's true, but I'm not sure how many of those flippers will stick. I know, because I have gone through a lot of back and forth myself, and it has been a painful emotional experience to realize that Trump is often doing more harm than good, at least in my mind when compared to alternatives like DeSantis.

So my criticisms of Trump are not designed to "bring him down" as I'm not that black or white, unless we're talking Republicans v. Democrats, and Trump very well may be our best chance to win in 24. I'm just not convinced of that, and don't think anyone else should be at this point either. We should all keep an open mind, and if/when the time comes to criticize DeSantis, I won't see him as above reproach, either. But right now all I see out of DeSantis is good, and what I see out of Trump is not so good, although I reserve final judgement all the way until November 24, as should everyone. Thanks.

As far as I remember, he only disses folks as a RETORT. That’s his usual m.o.

I'd be fine with that. So where and when did DeSantis and Youngkin diss Trump to set this off? As far as I can find out, neither of them have even mentioned him in months.

It certainly is Trump's right to respond to some of the worst RINO’s pushing DeSantis

If Trump has a problem with RINO's, who may be "pushing DeSantis" as you say, shouldn't he come out and say that's what his problem is?

Yes. Perhaps he doesn't want to go there yet. It would only help Trump and hurt DeSantis if he was more clear about that. But he hasn't done that.

Where is it proven that DeSantis is even running for President, much less seeking RINO support?

If DeSantis doesn't agree with and/or doesn't want to be associated with Paul Ryan, Karl Rove, and Chris Christie and their push for DeSantis while they simultaneously criticize Trump then he should say so.

The only thing I'm aware of is Richard Baris made a tweet that claimed ...

I've seen no confirmable evidence of what Baris said, and I have not referred to it here.
