Actually, I agree that Americans shouldn’t own AR-15s. The only reason we do, is be it’s such a pain in the rear to get an M-16 or a BAR. Get rid of section 922o in it’s entirety, and we’ll discover what American’s prefer to carry.

I was actually referring to the 50s. The TVs we had back then didn’t have much in the way of children’s programs and our adults didn’t let us watch anything but things like Disney programs and Howdy Doody . As we got older the movies we watched were like “War of the Worlds” and “Them”. The violence in those movies wasn’t people killing people but monsters attacking people and people always won in the end.

“Who exactly is this mofo to be telling e or anyone lese what we can own or not own?! Holy sh*t, this country and world gone super stupid.”

Michael Yon is a former Special Forces operator that was embedded as a war correspondent with US & UK troops during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, pushing out articles of what he was experiencing on the front-lines.

I didn’t get so much that he was telling anyone what they can or can’t own, just his take on things based on his real-life experiences.

As I mentioned up thread, everyone has an opinion about the “best” weapons to have or get, and then lose in an unfortunate boating accident.

If 5.56 is stamped on the side of the receiver then you are good, regardless of what the box said. And, of course, that is your experience as well.

What?!?!? No assault BB guns? Then where do all these school shooters get started?

Only problem with a .243 is same as .223 - if you live in the woods, good luck hitting what you are shooting at....

if the bullet hits a twig, it’s vastly deflected...

Shoot a larger, slower moving bullet and it goes through the branches and into the target.

That’s what 30-30 is really for, or any large, slower fps bullet.

Also, my buddy had lots of deer run 100-300 yards or more after a center body shot with his .243. There’s no lockdown energy - similar to .223.

Hit the same deer with a .308 (even a worse shot location) and the deer will literally “flip” in the air sometimes...

The 5.56 is a child’s caliber. At 17, you are a young man and expected to do man stuff with man calibers.

LOL!

My brother has a .243

.243 brass is in very short supply. (it can be made from .308, but I prefer not to have wrong head stamp on brass.)

I have dies for it. But don’t shoot one.

.308 is still 30 caliber like it’s big brother the 30-06

Then get out of the house and do not return without catching a wild animal with your hands. Bring it back alive and unharmed. The neighbor girl is not a wild animal.

A lot of the Depression Era gunfighters like Jelly Bryce liked breaking down the pelvis to anchor an opponent. Of course he could plant 3 between your peepers before you could raise your gun.

The only weapon I’ve ever heard of that was chambered for.223 and had problems shooting 5.56 was the Ruger Mini-14. And they made them mutually compatible starting in the early 90’s.

Michael does some good stuff.

But, this sort of hyperbole does not help him:

Witness this Al Qaeda shot four times at point blank, including splattering a testicle. The terrorist, with one remaining testicle and gut-shot, still did admirable hand-to-hand. And did not die for eight months. Gotta respect a man who can get an egg shot off and still try to bite you. But this never would have happened with 7.62x51.

Easy to debunk by reading Medal of Honor recipient stories.

Adrenaline does amazing stuff. A Marine friend served with a Gunny who took two 12.7 rounds (50 cal equivalent) through the chest (one lung), a couple of AK hits 7.62x39, and grenade shrapnel, and still took out the machine gun nest.

He lived, recovered, and ended up, finally, retiring. I think he eventually got a medical.

Yes, Michael probably would say, this is humor.

As a war correspondent, people rely on him for truth.
