(WGHP) — Olivia Newton-John died at 73 on Monday morning at her home in California, according to her husband.
Newton-John died of breast cancer after a 30-year battle with the disease, TMZ reports.
The singer, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur and activist won four Grammys and had five No .1 hits and ten top-10 hits. She also had two No. 1 albums in the 1970s.
She is most well known for her role as Sandy Olsson in “Grease” and was passionate about the environment and animal rights.
Her husband released the following statement:
Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.
Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund.
Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall.
He is probably just embarrassed he did know what Dame referred to.
Thinking of a time when I was so sad I sat on the floor each night and listened to ONJ (If you love me let me know) over and over.
She helped me get over that 6 months in my life.
RIP Olivia
One of my college crushes. Heck of a beauty. Incredible voice.
RIP to her and condolences to her family.
I was about 15 when Grease came out. I wasn’t allowed to see it (very strict parents limited us to Rated G movies) until much later in adulthood.
By the time of Xanadu, I was over 18 and saw it for Olivia Newton-John’s sake.
Well, let's see.
She figures she's got herself a "title", and I don't.
She's prancing around with her "title" figuring she's
better than the rest of us. Special, she is.
Whoops! Now she's dead and all us commoners are still alive.
HA HA.
I loved her voice. She sang songs that everyone can sing without screaming/yelling.
Same here. We’ll have to watch Grease and Xanadu this week in her honor.
We saw her live at a venue near Chicago in the ‘80s. We had “binoculars required” seats, but it was a great show, and she was stunning, even from that distance.
Show biz people have been dropping left and right this year, it seems, but this one hurts.
Sung as "If not for Hugh". Very early in her career when she didn't understand what she was doing artistically. Still, a great singer.
I saw him & The Four Seasons in 1964 at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. Then, almost forty-five years later, I saw him perform at Coney Island.
Damn, I live in Vegas. I thought “I can always go see ONJ”. Just goes to show, these living legends aren’t getting any younger. I loved her music riding the bus during the 70s.
I thought it was a good, feel good movie.
Olivia, Gene Kelley, Electric Light Orchestra, good singing, good dancing, and a fantasy story line.
Wow she fought that cancer for a longtime. At least she survived into her senior years. God take her to Heaven - a much better place.
This breaks my heart. To be an international icon, Olivia was so down to earth and unpretentious. What a beautiful lady and what a beautiful voice.
Yes, and a worthy subject she was.
The same reason a dog licks himself in a special way - because he can. Ignore him, he’s just someone’s schnauzer here.
Amen, 1,000% agree.
Please see 28 and 40.
Another great ONJ song: Let Me Be There.

The world has changed since 1980. The good guys lost, and I just don’t give a damn about the new one.
No wonder the military can’t find recruits. Who will fight for “Cardi-B W.A.P.,” a celebrity that “President” (sic) Biden gushed over?
I know someone who sat near her on a plane and talked with her. He said she was STUNNING! She looked even better in person than in the movie.
