Candidates try to do that to their opponents all teh time. it rarely has an effect, except to harm the candidate who is pushing it.
At the very least, Oz is apparently trying to have it both ways.
In 2016 I agreed with her sentiments about Trump. I didn’t trust him at the time. I still voted for him over Hillary. It was how he governed as POTUS that won me over. I don’t blame anyone for being skeptical in 2016.

I was a paid Republican oppo researcher for 12 years. I can tell you that the Democrat oppo researchers that will be hired by the Democrat candidate are drooling at the easy money job of ripping Barnette to pieces.
There are black and white hits all over this woman’s record. The anti-Trump tweets, the refusal at this late hour to answer simple questions like when and where were you an adjunct professor?
The questions about her military service should have been a 1/2 hour story knocked down immediately.
She would be a dream opponent for the Democrat consultants.
McCormick is way too close to China and has the problem of being seen as an elite Even though that is an unfair and wrong take on him, the oppos would score big points with that in a state that is so rural.
No matter what the geniuses here are saying, Oz is the best bet and with the picture getting darker for the rodents he will win by 8 - 12 points.

Before his Senate campaign Oz praised Anthony Fauci as a “pro”, now he says Fauci is a “tyrant” and has called for Fauci to be fired.
2017 Oz co-authored a paper highlighting the threats of climate change (now he says “carbon dioxide, my friends, is 0.04% of our air. That’s not the problem.”)
2019 Oz supported abortion rights (now he says he supports overturning Roe V. Wade)
2007 Oz described himself as a “Moderate Republican” (now he describes himself as a “Conservative Republican”)
2008 Oz told The National Review of Medicine that “I’m not socially conservative...” and “we should not be creating obstacles during the difficult time that women have when trying to terminate a pregnancy.”

Meaning if Trump had done as well as her he would have carried the state.
