Might have been much sadder had it happened twelve minutes earlier.
There are 2 pilots….always.
I thought those planes had copilots and autopilot. If he had a heart attack while flying, the copilot could probably land it.
He will likely never fly again.
Yoder says he is aware of pilots suffering chronic chest pain who are not admitting this fact to the airlines who employ them.
These pilots are obviously still flying and it seems that Yoder has made the airlines aware of this latter fact. It’s not clear whether Yoder is aware of the specific identity of the pilots in this cohort. He probably isn’t. The point is, the airlines like American know this is a “thing”, and yet, are not responding to this information by doing the logical thing by backing away from the vexxationation mandate. Hence this near disaster.
The pilot involved must have felt symptoms pointing toward cardiac problems. Yet he must now realize, having been dragged back from the jaws of death, that he himself, by not admitting symptoms, but instead continuing to fly, is in a certain way complicit in creating the monstrous new risk the flying public is facing.
Naw. See there's a co-pilot who can go ask the passengers if anyone knows how to fly.
