The information war continues raging…. On one battlefront we have Elon Musk trying to push back against quasi-government control mechanisms that constrict information and the flow of discussion and ideas. On a lesser, albeit similar battlefield, we see this. DuckDuckGo used to be the preferred search engine for those who wanted privacy on-line and unfiltered, ie organic, search engine responses. Unfortunately, CEO Gabriel Weinberg is now stating he will change the algorithm to remove independent information and media outlets and will replace them with only approved MSM results.
“Like so many others I am sickened by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the gigantic humanitarian crisis it continues to create. #StandWithUkraine️,” Weinberg tweeted on Wednesday. “At DuckDuckGo, we’ve been rolling out search updates that down-rank sites associated with Russian disinformation.”
Riddle me this my friends: The White House has officially admitted to creating misinformation, disinformation and malinformation as part of their strategic campaign against Russia in Ukraine. NBC news gleefully embraces the strategy {SEE HERE}. However, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has an official agency mission {SEE HERE} to “help the American people understand the scope and scale of Mal, Dis, and Misinformation activities,” and Google/DuckDuckGo/Big Tech have officially aligned with both U.S. government interests, promising to target, remove and penalize any entity engaged in Mal, Dis and Misinformation activities.

try Qwant.
I’ve switched to Brave.
DDG has long ago gone Google. This guy is just virtue-signaling.
Me, too. I don’t need anyone telling me what’s ‘appropriate’ to see.
I support Ukraine but this crap just pisses me off.
The search engine that claims it’s none of their business ... lied.
I have to ask what kind of creep would even think to do this with a search engine/ browser?
I had changed to startpage about a month or two ago.
How does that help you? I understood that it’s a web browser, not a search engine.
In other words, GOOGLE without the funding and name recognition... Does not sound like a sound business plan, but whatever...
That’s how I felt ever since FReepers started demanding we use DuckDuckGo. I do what I want and rely on my own good brain.
Well, f*uck the Duck...
Well, how does your ‘good brain’ help you if the search engine you’re using is blocking stuff or putting it far down the results?
The Ukraine thing is a smokescreen. DDG has de-indexed a handful of sites they feel may cause them some sort of “legal liability” (pirates sites, YT-DL sites, etc). So, in other words, they’re hiding whatever Google doesn’t want them to show you.

I switched to Brave.....duckduck can go duck themselves....
And search engine.
Me too. Will do it this weekend.
Brave was founded by Brendan Eich, the inventor of JavaScript and the founder of Mozilla. He was kicked out of Mozilla by the wokesters because he opposes homosexual marriage.
His experiences led him to start a new privacy preserving browser, and now a new search engine.
I very much doubt Brendan will subvert his search engine in order to please wokesters.
It is a shame that the DuckDuckGo people have betrayed their trust. Imagine asking directions from someone who purposely deceives you. Like Fredo, DDG is now dead to me.
I still use Bing because of the Rewards points. I use it mostly for my family tree, and other info, but when I’m trying to jog my memory, and need to look for negative articles on Democrats, especially those from years ago, I find that if I make the search as specific, and detailed as possible, I can usually find what I’m looking for. I honed my search skills over many years when I was doing historical research.
