Sink the Moskva, with apologies to the Bismark

In April of Twenty -twenty- two the war was underway
The Russians had the biggest ship, it had the biggest say
The Moskva was the biggest ship that sailed the Black Sea
On her masts were air defense, to Crimea was the key.

We'll find the Russian cruiser that's makin' such a mess
We gotta sink the Moskva cause Ukraine depends on this
Launch the T2 Bayraktar boys and turn the Neptunes on
When we find the Moskva we gotta blast her down.

For seven  long and weary weeks the pattern became plain
Zelensky told Odessa, take a chance with Neptunes name
"Cause taking out the Moskva, to Donbas is the key
We gotta sink the Moskva to the bottom of the sea"

I don’t know about the Neptune system, but it’s hard to believe the ship was hit without targeting assistance from another super power -

The propaganda value of the footage from that drone must be invaluable.

I’m waiting for more reliable confirmation than some pbs twitter rando.

Accidents never happen aboard naval wessels.

Ask Clayton Hartwig’s accusers.

“It’s not our war.”

While I completely agree, there seems to be a mass psychosis “We’re all Ukrainian now!” thing going around.

Apparently, it drops IQ about 40 points immediately.

Does this confirm it sank? From the list, that was fatal. Abandoned due to high seas is BS.

Russia only has about 12 or 13 ships in the Black Sea. Turkey has closed the Bosporus Straits to any more Russian warships (except those returning to their regular home port).

One of the Russian landing ships (Orsk) was previously sunk in the port of Berdyansk, and two others left that engagement burning, but reportedly made it back to port in Sevastopol.

There has now been time for the Harpoon missiles that the UK announced they were sending, to have arrived on station. Perhaps Ukraine had to conserve their anti-ship missiles to protect Odessa from a Naval landing force before, or maybe the Ukrainians just happened to get lucky with locating the Moskva, to target it. In addition to being the likely command ship, it also played an important role in Russian air defenses in the Black Sea.

I wonder if an Admiral got caught in the fire? It has been a while since another Russian Flag Officer was killed.

I agree. Ukraine would be more than justified to sink every Russian ship operating in the black sea.

As long as Turkey keeps the straits closed, Russia's naval power is finite, and each ship that goes down lessens its naval advantage along the coasts. We should be sending them the anti-ship missiles to sink as much of Russia's Black Sea fleet as possible.

My WAG is that it may have been hit, but probably would not have sunk but for horrible Russians munitions/fuel discipline, and terrible damage control.

Well it was the Admiral's flag ship. Maybe they go lucky and hit his vodka stash?

Accidents never happen aboard naval wessels.

During wartime, what most often sends warships to the bottom of the sea?

Stranger still that the Ukrainians would boast of hitting it with missiles before the Russians offered to the world that they had accidently caught their own ship on fire, somehow.

Odd the Ukrainians knew, huh?

But if it makes you feel better to assume this must be more Russian incompetence on display, don't pick up Occam's razor.

“Odd the Ukrainians knew, huh?”

But of course. How silly of me.

Everyone knows that radio waves do propagate slower than the internet.

A few more stanzas to make it complete:

We'll find the Russian cruiser that's makin' such a mess
We gotta sink the Moskva cause Ukraine depends on this
Launch the T2 Bayraktar boys and turn the Neptunes on
When we find the Moskva we gotta blast her down.

The storm was raging in the sea, the time was heaven sent
The T2's were in the air, a diversion with ill intent
The Neptunes launched with mighty roar, they flew low and fast
And for the mighty  Moskva, the hour could be her last.

We'll find the Russian cruiser that's makin' such a mess
We gotta sink the Moskva cause Ukraine depends on this
Launch the T2 Bayraktar boys and turn the Neptunes on
When we find the Moskva we gotta blast her down.

Was Moska's crew distracted? Was vodka the fatal key?
Was luck the only answer? Delayed maintenance at sea?
Ukraine's gunners claim the fame; some blame Moska's crew.
The Moska's fate was sealed when onboard munitions blew.

We'll find the Russian cruiser that's makin' such a mess
We gotta sink the Moskva cause Ukraine depends on this
Launch the T2 Bayraktar boys and turn the Neptunes on
When we find the Moskva we gotta blast her down.

In April of Twenty twenty two the horrid war goes on
Sailors aboard the Moskva, don't float like a swan
We had to sink the Moskva, Ukraine depends on this.
She's at the bottom of the sea, Odessa didn't miss.

The Russian ministry said the ammunition on the ship blew up.

I’m sure we should believe them, just as much as their claims of bio labs, neo nazis in charge of Ukraine, etc.

Those sailors on the Moskva are victims of Putin, not the Ukraine. Putin put them there in a war of aggression. It is most sad they died. They died by an act of self defense by the Ukraine. It is the same in all wars. Politicians and despots make the decisions. Then the soldiers and sailors die.

ps
My son was a combat medic in Iraq for two tours. Before his first tour his attitude was “go kick their ass.” After leave in his first tour it was, “I need to be there for my guys as I am the medic.” The remainder of his first tour was exactly the same as was his second tour. “ I need to be their for my guys.” When home on leave he was grateful for such. At the same time he wanted to go back as he was their medic and it was his guys. He lost his First Sergent in the vehicle ahead of him. He saw him blow up. It could have been my son. Chris did everything he could do in the field as in stop bleeding, pack the wound and massive iv fluids to maintain blood pressure. It was no avail. His Sargent could not have been saved even in a modern hospital.

It is difficult to know which is worse for the Russians:

1. Have their flagship sink because of poor maintenance/accident

2. Have their flagship sink because of enemy action by Ukraine.

Enlarge the burning pic and you can see there are no missile tubes on the forward part of the ship.
