3. Have the world believe #2.
The Russians also claim that all the crew was rescued. But Ukraine points to communications that shows they were still desperately looking for crew members.
Neptune is an updated Russki missile design with improvements to its range and new electronics.
How good are the electronics? Dunno, but as I mentioned on another thread, 30+ years ago a good friend of mine was working on development of anti-ship missile smarts that basically boil down to:
“General location?” “Check.”
“Enter target location into missile.”
“You’re sure* it’s “theirs”?” “Check.”
*Missile will re-confirm, later.
“Position launcher (pause) and fire.”
The missile uses terrain recognition and / or pre-programmed info. to travel to the general location, finds and recognizes / differentiates the target, and knows from what vector to attack and precisely where to hit the ship. Basically it’s DSP (my buddy’s specialty) and a form of AI.
Do Neptunes have this? Would it be a surprise?
The Ukes surely only have a few, however.
Could well be. Neptunes are not really designed for ships quite this large.
I suppose the Ukes might have gotten lucky, too.
How many Russian ships have been hit by hostile fire in the last 50 years?
To quote Morticia Addams in the Addams Family movie: "Hours!"
