Odd comparing the size of a continent to the size of political states
It’s 100% correct on my globe. Nothing shocking about it. We know that Greenland appears huge on flat maps. So this breathless “discovery” is a waste of breath.
Its true. Africa is the motherland of all humanity. It is huge. And it will eat you up , you are only a skin bag of red meat.
Cool graphics but for the most part they are comparing countries to a continent. Apples to Oranges.
Mercator knew FAR MORE than me about maps and if his maps show Russia much larger than Africa, then that’s that truth, as far as I’m concerned.
The most shocking thing to me is that the US has almost as much land mass as China. I thought it was larger since they have so many people.
All those natural resources, yet, not a single black run country there is any good.
But...where are all those Russians going to LIVE, now?
Africa is much bigger than the US — and is mostly a sh*thole.
Seriously, if someone’s not happy with the globe we presently use...give’em a basketball and some magic markers...and let them draw their own. Be a little cumbersome to use as a GPS while driving around, but apparently, they don’t mind being lost.
South America (6.9 million square miles) is 8X times larger than Greenland (836,000 square miles).
On a Mercator Projection, they look almost equal.
The true size of Africa is shocking only for those who have never seen an Earth globe before.
However, those who have never seen an Earth globe probably find a lot of things shocking.
As Jolla points out, the comparison is between a continent and individual countries. We are not supposed to notice this, as we shiver in fear over being thought racist because we don’t instantly snap to attention over the word “Africa” and realize that we are worthless racist scum for not placing Africa at the top of the list of civilized continents and deprecating our own country as hoplessly racist.
Flat-Earthers don’t have this problem.
Really? Shocked? How stupid are people…
Never seen a globe?!?
Morons
The Mercator projection makes Greenland look much larger than Australia. In fact Greenland is 836,330 square miles whereas Australia’s land mass is 2,966,153 square miles, more than three times the size of Greenland.
Srednik recommends the Lambert Conformal Projection for landlubbers.
Flat maps do not work well for this sort of thing.
Continent Area in SqM % Total of Earth
The World 57,308,738 100%
Asia 17,212,000 30.0%
Africa 11,608,000 20.3%
North America 9,365,000 16.3%
South America 6,880,000 12.0%
Antarctica 5,100,000 8.9%
Europe 3,837,000 6.7%
Australia 2,968,000 5.2%
That puts things in perspective.
