Whoopi Goldberg has just been suspended from The View for her recent comments about the Holocaust.
I’m Jewish, and I’m against her suspension. I support free speech for everyone, and for all points of view.
In the past, Goldberg herself has defended free speech for old Looney Tunes cartoons that have racial stereotypes. This video is from The Looney Tunes Collection Vol. 3, which was released in 2005:

This morning I remembered when she and her then boyfriend Ted Danson attended a Friar’s Club Roast (I think it was but don’t remember for whom it was). And Ted went in blackface.
That story should resurface any day now.
People are out to get Whoopi.
I am not a Whoopi Goldberg fan. I am not supportive of any racially motivated communist groups, such as BLM. That being said, we have to stop censoring people. Yes, I am well aware that the fascists in our nation do so. Did I say fascists? Sorry, meant to say left wing nuts or Democrats.
I support all of the Bill of Rights, not just the parts that I want to support when it’s convenient for me. All Americans should feel the same. Whoopi Goldberg clearly doesn’t support the Bill of Rights, but that doesn’t imply that we should ignore it.
I agree. Be careful what you support. It will inevitably be used to attempt to shut us all up.
I doubt that she still holds that opinion. Whoopi has bent the knee to the Hollywood Looney Toons.
I would defend Whoopi, but this is the world she helped to make.
Maybe once these people start getting hoisted on their own petards, they just might start seeing the light, although I wouldn’t count on it.
I say let the viewing office vote for what they watch, left, right, liberal, conservative, whatever. If viewers drop below a certain point cast members even the show will be canceled. Let the marketplace decide.
The less democrats and rinos are censored, the greater democrats and rinos censor Conservatives …. Regrettably we have gone that deeply down the rabbit hole.
...or maybe these absurd leftists need to get a dose of their own medicine. It won’t end, they’re getting worse. They’re so enamored with their own self-righteous enlightenment they don’t see they’re nothing more than arrogant virtue signaling narcissistic fascists.
We’re in a world of cancel tit for tat. In games if you don’t play by the other side’s rules, you lose. While there are lots of different ways to view the cancel game and the end game that may, or may not, see the end of cancel culture, I think the rules should be the same for both sides. I think that making the other side adhere to their own rules may...may, cause them to reevaluate whether it’s a game they want to play at all.
As an aside, I enjoyed Whoopi as a B-list actor. But when she began speaking without a script the stupid just kept coming and coming. A true example of the Dunning-Kruger* effect if there ever was one.
The stated reasons for a firing in today’s business environment rarely comport with the real reasons. If they terminated Whoopi’s contract merely because the show needed a “facelift” (cough) they’d probably get sued by Goldberg. However, if they can show that she violated some on-air behaviors standards, it’s all good.
What she says might be true but today’s depictions in comic books-about trans ans same sex-represent what is going on in today’s society. So 20 years down the road is she going to say that they were wrong too? After all they represent the worst of society today. So much so that no one is buying them or watching them in movies.
The whole thing is a lot of silly drama involving malcontents on both sides who bathe themselves daily in the waters of their fake “victimhood.”
Instead of suspending Goldberg have any of these nitwits thought about inviting a couple of real historians on to discuss the Holocaust?
I say free Whoopi as well.
Suspending her implies The View strives to be a legitimate source of accurate information.
I’m in the middle on this one. On the one hand, I support free speech, even for idiots like Goldberg. On the other hand, I’m so tired of seeing conservatives destroyed for saying less, that I want to see Goldberg cancelled, hoisted on her own petard.
Fortunately, what I think doesn’t matter.
As others have pointed out, although I don’t agree with Ms. Goldberg on a variety of topics, I fully support her being able to espouse her opinions. This is what leads to conversations and advancing society, as a whole.
I’d also point out (more for the Left than for anyone here): this is a perfect example of when making a “racist” statement doesn’t necessarily imply that the person making it is a racist.
I understand the point that she was initially trying to make, and I think it was completely incorrect and, quite frankly, a dumb thing to say.
It was a valuable addition to the discussion, though, and helps illuminate the following points:
- race is not the same thing as color
- discrimination is discrimination
- you have to be able to open your mind to experiences that aren’t just yours
I think, if Ms. Goldberg is open to a bit of introspection, she will be able to learn from this, and move on a better person.
I also think, were she a conservative, her mistake would’ve been fatal.
I’m against suspending anyone for their free speech. But it has to cut both ways.
The crux of this is Whoopi is given a daily public platform to spew whatever hatred she espouses.....
...and she does loudly and bitterly!
It is not a surprise that folks consider the ‘ramifications’ ......(if there are any) .......of her vitriolic outburst a ‘.....Schadenfreude Moment!!!!
Many of us feel ‘voiceless’......with not a lot of forms of redress.
I don’t watch the view.....I’m not into flogging.
But I have seen it enough to know how vile, angry and sanctimonious she is.....daily.
There is hardly, if any, a drop of human kindness in her blood!
Do we know of 7 million black people who were singled out......like the Jews during the Holocaust.......
Have blacks been sent en masse to a Dachau, Treblinka, Auschwitz, Ravenbruck, etc
.....with their bodies going up in chimneys
No, I don’t think so.
Defend her if you will.
I cannot.
