Several frozen vials labeled "smallpox" were discovered by a laboratory worker while cleaning out a freezer in a facility that conducts vaccine research in Pennsylvania, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed to Fox News.
"There is no indication that anyone has been exposed to the small number of frozen vials," a CDC spokeswoman said via email
CDC, its administration partners and law enforcement are investigating the matter and the vials’ contents appear intact. The laboratory worker who discovered the vials was wearing gloves and a face mask. The organization will provide further details as they are available.
According to Yahoo News, which cited an alert sent to Department of Homeland Security leadership, the vials were reportedly found in a freezer Monday night at a Merck facility outside Philadelphia.
The closest Merck sites to Philadelphia are the sprawling campuses in West Point and North Wales, Montgomery County, although 6abc Action News could not confirm there are questionable vials inside either building…

When I cleaned out my freezer, all I found was some freezer burnt breakfast sammiches. I bet if they keep looking, they may find something like that too.

Geez, I always find surprises when I clean out the freezer, but never found a virus so hot that only 2 labs in the world are “ supposed” to have it for research.
Whew! But I’m still ok with my blankets from PA, correct?
1) Hmm...wouldn’t there be a rigorous chain of custody on SMALLPOX, naming who last had responsibility for it? Who has responsibility for the lab now?
2) Is this material killed virus or live virus?

Ok, there are only supposed to be two places left on earth with smallpox. A CDC vault and a Russian vault. Those aren’t supposed to be effed with at all. They are nothing but a repository for emergency study in case, god forbid, it somehow appeared again.
And now some lab in Pennsylvania just has it in a freezer?
This is a very big effing deal and they are soft selling this story. They need some serious who, what, WHEN, where and how.
Like the detail of whether or not there was actual smallpox in the vials.
Not even mentioned yet and it's the most critical detail.
I mean, c'mon man! /* How long would it actually take to analysis what was in the vials. No PDQ? No expedite this?
How long would it take for some wise guy to whip out a Sharpie and write ‘SMALLPOX’ on some old vials that were sitting around? That’s what I would ask, and that’s why I’d check.

When i was a teenager we used to pick up/scrape dead squirrels off the road, wrap them in foil and lave them in freezers at parties.

Smart move. There's a chance that someone may have it that we do not know about. Let's say it's in a freezer in Israel. Somehow there's an accident and every one in the country got infected. Sounds familiar?
Just pour them down the sink, no problem.
