Prop Gun Fired by Alec Baldwin Contained Live Bullet, Says IATSE Local 44

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on the New Mexico set of the Alec Baldwin film “Rust” after she was shot by a prop gun fired by the film’s star and producer, Alec Baldwin. IATSE Local 44, which covers prop masters, sent an email to its members early Friday morning that said the gun used in the scene contained “a live round” and the production’s propmaster was not a member of Local 44. Director Joel Souza also was hit and injured by a bullet and was treated at an area hospital before being released.

-snip-

In the email that IATSE Local 44 sent to its membership, Secretary-Treasurer Anthony Pawluc described the event as an “an accidental weapons discharge” in which “A live single round was accidentally fired on set by the principal actor, hitting both the Director of Photography, Local 600 member Halnya Hutchins, and Director Joel Souza … Local 44 has confirmed that the Props, Set Decoration, Special Effects and Construction Departments were staffed by New Mexico crew members. There were no Local 44 members on the call sheet.”

It is obvious Baldwin has absolutely no knowledge of basic gun safety.

Yes. Like, the gun is always loaded and keep your booger hook off the bang switch.

And further...what genius handed someone else a loaded gun? Another basic screw up.

It’s not about Baldwin the actor, it’s about Baldwin the producer. It’s going to cost him.

It's about both, AND the writer/director.

A clearly bipolar man who is prone to fits of rage... really a prop gun? Why was it aimed and fired at a non actor who was not in the scene?

As far as I can tell, the gun wasn't fired as part of a scene...Baldwin was horsing around.

No one has given an inkling as to the "owner" of the gun. I bet it's Baldwin's.

Hollywood will cover for him.

I hope not but I'd like all the facts. And they are coming out in dribs and drabs.

Has anybody considered, maybe not an accident? Time to investigate ANY relationship with the victim. Remember HE’S AN ACTOR, and a very good one despite being a dispicable human. Red October still one of my favorites.

His negligent gun handling should net him a manslaughter or negligent homicide charge.

It will feed the media-entertainment industry for the next two years at least. Prepare for a truckload of leftist hypocrisy.

At the end, there will be some perfunctory charges, which will amount to nothing

They should have read Jeff Cooper of Gunsite Rules for the range.

Don’t they have stunt coordinators on that set?

Apparently not.

Alec was filming a scene on the set of his new Western movie, Rust, that required him to fire a gun that was supposed to be loaded with blanks.

But, the gun discharged either shrapnel or a bullet, which hit two people on set including the director of photography, Halyna Hutchins.

Who “could” put a real round in a prop gun. A prop gun is designed to carry the “blank” (no bullet tip) in the chamber, but not the real round. That wasn’t a prop gun.

“The gun has to be loaded in order to film the scene,”

I think they show it is unloaded first then safety director shows loading of blanks.

Regardless the safety officer is requited to be with the actor when guns are used on set.

Baldwin is a POS. He needs to be prosecuted for manslaughter. I doubt the DA will do that.

The first rule of firearms—never, ever point at anyone unless you plan to shoot the target dead.

Second rule of firearms—ALL guns are loaded.

Waiting for the ban on Hollywood movies with guns...

It that's true, his blame game isn't gonna convince anyone.

Hmmm. The prop guy loaded live ammunition onto a prop gun? A live round is easily distinguishable from a blank round. And why would there be a live round on the set at all? Either he did this on purpose or someone else did. But the two different types of rounds cannot be confused with each other.
