The Worst Part? The Democrats Can't Use the 25th Amendment

There is some speculation floating around social media (mostly, but not totally, from the right) that Democrats may try to pull the 25th Amendment card on Biden to push him aside and bring Kamala Harris forward in an effort to save face in this moment of geopolitical crisis. It is some of the same speculation you saw several times when the Left called for members of the Trump administration to turn on Trump and invoke the amendment.

However, the Democrats have put themselves into such a terrible position that they absolutely cannot get rid of Biden through this means, or else they give up the only chance they have to get anything through the Senate, and they would definitely hurt their electoral chances in 2022 and 2024.

In August of 1974, Gerald Ford became the President of the United States after Richard Nixon resigned. In order to get a Vice President, Congress had to approve Nelson Rockefeller.

“Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress,” Section 2 of the amendment explains.

This last happened in 1974, when Vice President Gerald Ford — himself a replacement for Vice President Spiro T. Agnew, who resigned after being accused of tax evasion — replaced President Richard Nixon. Ford nominated Nelson Rockefeller to serve as his vice president, according to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.

And that is why they will cling to plugs even until he is like Star Trek’s Captain Pike.

Therefore to get rid of Joe they must first force Harris to resign

I expect there will be some kind of "unexpected event" that will remove Harris from office. After the FBI goes to "round up the usual suspects", it will all be blamed on shadowy groups of Trump supporters. Who will somehow evade identification and capture. But "The Investigation must continue until all the perpetrators can be held accountable".

There will be no 25th Amendment proceedings. Biden will resign for reasons of health after a severe bout of an undisclosed illness. Which will actually be true. That cocktail of stimulants and mood stabilizers they keep giving him must be exacting a ruinous toll. It is amazing that he has lasted as long as he has.

We haven't seen the replacement team yet. There are probably several factions jockeying for position with favored candidates, and the matter isn't settled. It won't be anybody that we know. Very specifically, it won't be Nancy Pelosi or Hillary Clinton. It will be a man.

Whoever is the winning finalist will be a mere figurehead, willing to take directions and capable of making good television appearances.

The dims have a second problem in that Harris is highly disliked. I’m not so sure the public would like to see her in the oval office.

Since when did the Dems care what the public think?

Interesting take, but assumes they're not going to just steal every election from now on.

The author of this article is stupid. Romney, Collins et al would certainly vote to approve whoever Harris appointed. Moreover, with Pelosi as Speaker of the House and next in line, even Ted Cruz would vote to confirm almost anyone that would come before Pelosi being a heart beet away from the Oval Office.

The term “hoisted on their own petard” comes to mind as an apt description of the Democrats position

Delusional.

Mitt Romney or a half dozen other Senate RINOs will vote for the Democrat agenda - or abstain - anytime the Democrats ask for their help.

As far as President Kamala Harris, she will be happy to subordinate her personal political goals - if any - to the Party leadership agenda, as long as the Democratic Party shows her the deference and flattery owed to the first female President.

The 2022 midterm election?

The Democrats have enough legal voters to win Congress, or to hold the GOP to a very narrow majority.

Meanwhile, the MSM will do its part by editing out of existence any news or analysis that might hurt Democrats at the polls.

The dims have a second problem in that Harris is highly disliked.

This was obvious when she was chosen tto be Biden’s running mate. Harris was so unmarketable to voters she was one of the first to drop out. She was the least likely of all the possible choices for VP to add votes to the ticket or to be an electable successor to Biden. So, the question is for what purpose, and by whom, was she chosen. What were they thinking?

The way I’m reading it (and no, I’m not a constitutional scholar) is that the VP would become the ACTING President and assume the powers and duties of the office, not that they would remove the sitting President.
Since it’s never been done, I could absolutely be wrong!

I read it the same way. It seems pretty clear that the Amendment is intended for a case where the President is physically incapacitated due to illness.

If the President contests the issue, then he re-assumes his office, unless Congress, by a 2/3 vote of BOTH houses votes in favor of continuing the VP being in charge.

Notice that 2/3 of both houses is a HIGHER bar than impeachment, which just needs 2/3 of the Senate.

This means that a 25th Amendment removal is HARDER than impeachment.

They were thinking they would get black voters enthused over having a black VP (blacks wouldn’t care that she’s an idiot, look at who they voted into office in the House and Senate).

Meanwhile, white Democrats could vote for the ticket under the illusion that Harris would just be decorative and would not actually run anything.

Whoever they put, I think most people will see him as a corrupt incompetent fraud.

Fully agree. He also didn’t need her in order to carry CA. Very strange choice for VP indeed.
