Video showing Chicago police fatally shooting 13-year-old Adam Toledo was released today, along with other materials related to the investigation.
Chicago's Civilian Office of Police Accountability announced on Wednesday that the video would be released today, two days after Adam's family was shown footage of the shooting. The agency said after the family watched the videos Tuesday night that based on the family's request, it would "not immediately release" the footage or other materials like 911 calls and witness statements to the public.
Prosecutors had described the events in the video over the weekend as a judge set bond at $150,000 for the 21-year-old man who was with the teen at the time of the fatal shooting.
Ruben Roman, who was represented by a public defender at a Cook County bond court hearing, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and child endangerment.
The video captured Roman firing shots before police responded to the scene. Prosecutors said an officer apprehended Roman, who dropped red gloves on the ground during his arrest that later tested positive for gunshot residue.
The other officer chased Toledo, repeatedly telling him to stop, and eventually, Toledo stopped near a break in a wooden fence, prosecutors stated. Toledo, who was standing with his left side facing the officer and holding his hand to his right side, was ordered by the officer to show his hands, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney James Murphy said.
The officer told the teen to "drop it, drop it," as Toledo, with a gun in his right hand, turned toward the officer, prosecutors said. The officer opened fire, striking the teen once in the chest. The gun Toledo was holding landed a few feet away, prosecutors said.
The officer called for medical assistance and started performing chest compressions on Toledo, who died at the scene, authorities said.
The teen's right hand tested positive for gunshot residue, according to Murphy. Fired shell casings from near where Roman fired shots matched the 9-millimeter handgun that was recovered near Toledo, prosecutors said.

Mayor Ligtfoot alleged before the official release of the video that she had not seen evidence that Adam shot at the police and that she wants her citizens to express themselves peacefully. The footage has been widely anticipated in the city after other videos of violent police encounters around the country sparked civil unrest.
Adam’s family had recently called for people to “remain peaceful” to honor his memory as the city awaits the release of the video. They echoed that request again in Thursday’s statement.
“We acknowledge that the release of this video is the first step in the process toward the healing of the family, the community and our city,” the statement read in part. “We understand that the release of this video will be incredibly painful and elicit an emotional response to all who view it, and we ask that people express themselves peacefully.”
BLM rioters were ready to riot even before they saw the video:
COPA is still investigating the shooting and the officers involved have been placed on administrative duties for 30 days in line with Chicago Police Department policy.
It’s Chicago, who cares.
“Seriously, i knew this summer was going to be BLM mania part 2, burning more cities down. Somehow it will be Trumps and white conservatives fault.”
Why wouldn’t it be? It’s working for them. A good number of Americans are buying it, hook, line and sinker.
The anger I feel at the people fostering this BS makes it sound like I am indifferent to the deaths of the criminals.
I’m not. But being pushed to treat these people harmed by police as if they are completely innocent parties to their own deaths makes me push back against the Leftists who encouraging this beatification of vile criminals as a way of enacting social change in the manner of Saul Alinsky. They are the ones keeping people in modern day slavery in pestitential slums with little chance of escape, all for a vote at election time encouraged by vile race baiters who claim to speak for the community.
I know that there are innocent people who are killed by police (who have done nothing at all) and I am all for getting to the bottom of that and finding out the hows and whys in an effort to lessen the likelihood of it happening again. But those are exceedingly rare situations.
A police officer is EIGHTEEN TIMES more likely to be killed by a young, black male than a black person of any kind is to die at the hands of a police officer. (Heather MacDonald, WSJ)
But I’ll be damned if I am going to shed a tear on behalf of someone who is engaging in criminal behavior, resisting arrest or fleeing police at the expense of a police officer trying to do a job.
God, this all makes me so angry.
Kid is a punk in the making. In a city where there are shootings every day and he’s out prowling around at 2:30 am runs away from a cop with a gun in hand. Cop has no time at all to determine what this kid is running for, looks suspicious, what do you think the cop is thinking? He sees the gun, tells him to drop it, kid appears to turn holding a gun and all so fastl
And its not like he can tell age.
is it just me or can you hear the officer kicking away the gun at the 2:10 mark?
thanx.
I think “viewer link” is only a shortened link to the photo. It doesn’t display.
when I use IBB - I have good luck with “HTML medium link”. I play around with all of them to find what will work\fit nicely.
I think “viewer link” is only a shortened link to the photo. It doesn’t display in place (or i could never get it to)
I’ll PM you.
Very well said and I am in 100% agreement.
Who cares if the kid was armed at the particular split second the cop pulled the trigger? Put the onus on the piss poor judgment of this stupid kid and his handler who should have known that this wouldn’t end well instead of on the fallible human cop who is being paid to risk his/her life every day patrolling the streets to keep us safe.
I’m so sick of ppl on here demanding perfection out of LE 24/7 and giving obvious criminals every benefit of the doubt. Don’t wanna get shot in Chicago? Then stay home and don’t engage in criminal behavior in the middle of the night!
To me, at 2:04 of the 1st video, it looks like he has his right hand in the front pocket of the hoodie. Turning with is hand there, and the cop knowing he had/has a gun, means that the officer has to make a split second decision. The kid could have had a gun in the pocket.
If the cop does not defend himself, he may not be going home at the end of his watch. If he does protect himself, he could kill an unarmed kid. It’s a tough choice. Total respect for the job.
I agree completely.
Not sure if this has been posted but the gun is clearly visible here.

Found some other video. Kid definitely had a gun in his hand exactly .838 milliseconds before he was shot. It’s very hard to see, but it’s there. Also saw photos of the gun.
Dude, not sure how you got that from my post, but I’m on the officer’s side of the fence.
There is a still photo of it over on this newer thread:

Man o’man, when you find out, tell me please. There is a link to a “How to Post Pictures to Freerepublic” thread out there. I’ve seen it a couple of times, but I never saved the darned thing. I definitely will the next time I see it pop up though.

, please correct the record!
Your video of an officer-involved shooting was cropped & didn’t include a key piece of evidence: the suspect holding a gun.
Warning sign To the Media Outlets: by editing or cropping this type of footage, you jeopardize the safety of our communities.
In that split second, I totally agree the officer would assume that pistol would be aimed at him as the kid finished his pivot. Enemedia will show the “hands up and empty” pic and hang the police with it.
other than that, I don’t care....
the bad cities are all run by rats, let them burn...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So who is paying for the Bye-Done $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill..... and how much of that money went to bail out cities burnt and looked to smithereens las summer?
