Dr. Andrew Baker, the Hennepin County medical examiner, took the stand at the murder trial of former Officer Derek Chauvin for pressing his knee on or close to Floyd’s neck. Baker concluded last year that Floyd died from cardiopulmonary arrest — that is, his heart stopped.
The chief county medical examiner who ruled George Floyd’s death a homicide testified Friday that Floyd’s heart gave out due to heart disease, hypertension, drugs, and stress. He also said that the stress was caused by the way the police held him down.
When Baker was asked how police “subdual, restraint and neck compression” led to Floyd’s death, he said that Floyd had severe underlying heart disease and an enlarged heart that needed more oxygen than normal to function, as well as narrowing of two heart arteries.
Baker said being involved in a scuffle raises adrenaline, which asks the heart to beat even faster and supply more oxygen.
“And in my opinion, the law enforcement subdual, restraint and the neck compression was just more than Mr. Floyd could take by virtue of that, those heart conditions,” the medical examiner said.

He also stated that the knee of office Chauvin appeared to be on Floyd’s back and it did not look like knee occluded carotid artery. And if it did it would not matter, he had another one.

He also confirmed his drug overdose:
Chauvin attorney Eric Nelson has argued that the now-fired white officer did what he was trained to do and was not responsible for Floyd’s death. Floyd had high blood pressure and heart disease, and an autopsy found fentanyl and methamphetamine in his system.
Officer- Do you have a medical questionnaire that I can complete?
Why?
Because I want to document that I was in good health before I encounter you and whatever bad act that may follow....
Just shows how the Minnesota AG is another incompetent. They overcharged the police officer from the start. Now it could very well be that Officer Chauvin was guilty of not rendering aid when Floyd lapsed into unconsciousness. But that isn’t murder. It’s not even manslaughter, but if he had been charged with negligent manslaughter they’d at least have a shot at a legitimate conviction that would survive an appeal.
The way it looks I think there’s a fair chance that this jury will convict — but that this goes before an appellate court and gets overturned. So Minneapolis will burn when this trial is over, and probably again in 1 - 2 years when the appeal overturns it. We’re having a fire-sale on city fires. 3 for 1.
I sure could be wrong, but he seemed to say he wrote one report and changed it after seeing the videos. (BTW I am often wrong)
The cops do have to notice when someone on their custody, someone they are actually on top of, becomes unconscious. That’s a very small thing to require, and they missed it by three minutes.
True, and the pathologist, Thomas, doesn't seem to think contributing factors were much of a factor at all. She and the ME got a bit testy today when probed by defense. They wanted to dig in their heels, but came across pretty weak for the prosecutors, IMO.
he quit and his family said he didn’t od. they did say he just got the vaccine. they are mad that people are saying he was doing drugs.
no doubt the false prophet media of ours trying to divert attention away from their precious covid protocols
I'm OK with that, just as long as Minneapolis burns to the ground.
Consequences for Voting Democrat.
That!
Stress caused from having to swallow your drug stash so you don’t get sent back to the big house. He killed himself in my opinion.
I don’t see what the big deal is? All George Floyd did was do lots of drugs, deal drugs, make a porno movie and spend counterfeit money that day. I just don’t get it why the cops harassed that poor unfortunate man.
Agreed.
I agree and am looking forward to multiple Minneapolis bonfires.
How does this excuse not getting off a handcuffed man who says he can’t breathe
If a defendant is lying on the ground handcuffed behind their back saying I think 19 times they can’t breathe
With your knee on their neck
Maybe get your knee off their neck
I know it’s a novel idea here i
No they are not very expensive...
If cop had removed his knee and gotten medical attention
Hey he might not have died
Freepers ...
That is a wonderful hypothesis... however, the Chauvin trial is supposed to decide whether Chauvin's knee was the ONLY POSSIBLE cause, and BEYOND a reasonable doubt. Your own hypothesis seems to give more than reasonable doubt already.... and that's before we even get into the intent element of the charges.
I wish the police would have let him get up and continue his hysteria or ran, he would have died. But, then again, had that happened, the police would been held responsible for not restraining him and not caring enough.
I don’t think that’s true
The only cause theory
Contributing cause would result in manslaughter conviction which is where I think this goes personally
The hordes won’t be happy but to me....nearly alone here....thinks that’s fair.
Otherwise anyone dies in police custody the cop has the preexisting conditions defense
They certainly would with me.
I was in a fight a few years ago and I have had heart disease....congenital...I told the cops right away as they sorted it out that I had such a condition but that I felt like my angina was not alarming and i could breathe though I was panting like a dog
The cops were very accommodating....had me sit down and so forth
It’s not standard for cops to ignore a defendant or possible defendant proclaim of health issues
Lol....their man question was why are fighting then sir
My wife of course pounced on that ...”I tried to tell him he’s not 25 anymore....”
