The number of vessels stuck in a traffic jam outside the Suez Canal rose to 200 Friday as recent efforts to free a cargo ship wedged between the Canal’s two banks failed.
Dislodging the stuck ship, the Ever Given, could take up to a week, and the vessel can encounter structural issues while it remains stuck, a salvage expert told the Associated Press (AP).
The Suez Canal handles approximately 12% of international trade. Its recent blockage threatens to harm the world economy and poses a disruption to global supply chains, CNBC reported....
The ensuing traffic jams forced several cargo ships to consider taking a circuitous alternative route around Africa’s Cape of Good Hope....

I’m a retired container ship (and tanker) captain.
It was the wind.
There were no stairs involved.
The only way they can unload that ship is by heavy lift helicopters.
Salvage crews will free the ship, someday.
Best pilots I ever saw were on the Cooper River when we’d go to unload/offload weapons. Their family had been pilots there for over a century.
He's having a bad day.
Not an accident. More of the same intentional economic sabotage.
Seems logical and astronomically expensive I bet.
What does stairs have to do with it (I don’t get it(?))?
I don’t believe any supposed “official” explanation by them, no matter how possible in other scenarios etc.
As container ships evolved and could no longer offload their own cargo, the US Navy worked on plans to offload container ships by helicopter in war zones. I don’t think anything ever came out of planning.

Yeah that’s the problem my man why don’t you Google what they get paid extorting shipowners
Just send ‘em all through. That’s how you dislodge a waterslide jam.
I trust you. I don’t trust them. They lie about EVERYTHING.
Don’t touch the

Mv Ever Given is blocking the Suez canal - why can’t they just pull it out or dig it out? Why will this last a long time.
I will explain the problem in this video. I hope you like the video.
In the picture you see Evergreen stuck in the Suez canal.

After the Exxon Valdez hit the rocks in Prince William Sound a lot of things changed.
Powerful escort tugs were purpose made and multiples of them escorted the tankers in the Sound.
I suspect something like that will happen at the Suez Canal.
They might even try to put a smaller size limit in place.
Strange that articles call it “Ever Given”, but the name painted on the side is “Evergreen.”
I think “Ever Given” is the name of the ship and “Evergreen” is the name of the carrier company that owns it.
Good video
