The first rifle on my list is the venerable Ruger 10/22. Designed to mimic the size and weight of the historic M1 Carbine, this compact weapon has made a name for itself as one of the most accurate, reliable, and affordable .22s on the market.
It works great for small game hunting or propped by the back door for varmints, and with a 10-round magazine, it can handle self-defense in a pinch. There is also an endless list of aftermarket accessories available, so you can customize your rifle with ease.

Mini-30 tactical.
It should probably start with an “A”.
Probably none of us have any of those.
Owned them all except Ruger Mini.
What did I keep beside the bed? Saiga 12.
For home? 12 guage.
I used to.
Until that horrible boating accident several years ago................Sad...............8^(
Ruger PC-9 carbine. Fires 9mm handgun ammo and takes a glock mag. It is a break down carbine. Rear sight is way down the barrel so it is easy to sight for people who need glasses. 35 inches long so it is very easy to manuever. And the best part, it’s black so it makes it scary looking.
Rather than the PTR-91, get an M1A. More options.
I think an AR-15 with a pinned flash 14.5 inch barrel is best. YMMV.
Hidden weapons... might as well surrender something you never intend to use.
The Ruger mini 14 is awesome for coyote hunting. I have taken down a couple of big sows with it also. Shot the pig right in the ear canal. Went down like a sack of potatoes.
On a related note, the 10/22 sights are okay but you can also buy AR styled front and rear sights that they use with the Project Appleseed history / marksmanship training.
AR 15 does this fine, and no proprietary mags.

With Underwood Extreme Cavitator ammo you've got a highly lethal round (much more so than a .22LR), without the same overpenetration worries you have with a 5.56 mm.
How about a magazine-fed tactical shotgun?
Easy mod to fix that, and yes it is annoying.
I am thinking a short 12ga may be best. Maybe a Taurus Jude loaded with .410 personal defense backup.
I would like to have an M1 Carbine that shoots .30-06 cartridges. Later models did shoot the same ammo as M1 Garand and the Springfield 1903A3? Is this correct?
