This past week, Texas State Historical Association chief historian Walter Buenger made two controversial assertions regarding the Alamo in a story published by USA Today.
Although the battle has become a symbol of patriotism and freedom for many Texans and Americans, like the Confederate monuments erected after the Civil War, the myth of the Alamo has been used to “commemorate whiteness,” according to Walter L Buenger, Texas State Historical Association chair.
The battle itself was relatively insignificant tactically speaking, but it gained recognition decades later in the 1890s as backlash to African Americans gaining more political power and Mexican immigration increasing, Buenger said. In 1915, “Birth of a Nation” director D.W. Griffith produced “Martyrs of the Alamo,” which solidified the myth further by pitting white virtuous Texans against racist caricatures of Mexicans on screen.
“It became in some ways a sort of symbol of Anglo-Saxon preeminence,” he said. “The Alamo became this symbol of what it meant to be white.”

Walter Buenger. With a name like that it’s no wonder. He shall henceforth be known as Walter Bungholeo.
Get a rope
Probably not Robert Crossman though
It was foreign government against local government. Required state religion and other dictatorial features that caused Seguin and DeZavala to stand as Tejanos against the Mexicans. (The “expert” knows he is distorting.) The existence of the racial factions by no means makes it the motivational force of the community.
In the article, the author pretty much eviscerates this commie POS
I highly suggest he shut his pie hole or he’ll be packing and leaving in the dead of night....damn I hate these vermin!!
You are wrong! And if you ever lived in a Latin American nation, you’d know better.
Hispanic is a racial term. Some group of intelligentsia commies at around the turn of the 20th century thought it would be cute to call all of the people south of the Rio Grande “hispanic”.
These same clowns even refer to Brazilians as “hispanic”.
That’s the way I heered it too
This level of racism is not tolerable.
Americans will always get a bad reputation for how they dealt with the native populations, but the massacres and bloodly battles the Spaniards had with them far eclipsed anything the US Dragoons or Cavalry ever did.
It’s also why to this date a good portion of natives down there barely even know (or want to learn) the Spanish Language.
FWIW I wasn’t calling you ‘ignorant’, but the idea of all people south of the border being “Hispanic”.
Most native peoples down there would take offense to that term. It’s only after they come here and are brainwashed to see the benefits of gov’t classifications that they get “woke”.
I would also add that they aren’t “Latin” either.

Wait...what?!
Mexico banned slavery in 1829.
Which was one of the problems that the Americans, immigrating to Texas, had with the Mexican Government.
Don’t forget that many of the whites, like Jim Bowie, were married to Mexicans. That, like today, was a sure way of being granted citizenship and property.
There are many stories about the Yellow Rose of Texas.
One is that she was bi-racial and came to Texas with a Connecticut family as a paid nanny. The song was based on the golden color of her skin not her hair. Who knows the truth?

Past had it. I am sick of racists.
This guy needs a serious jap slap.
Many names on the walls in the Alamo of Texas heroes are Mexican. The whites and Mexicans in those walls were TEXICANS!
This guy is a real a-hole. That the nicest thing I can say
