I was struck by Dennis Prager's comparison of "Good Germans" with "Good Americans," but I now think it misses the mark.
The true comparison is West Berliners to East Berliners.
In the United States, we have families split between open Red States and closed Blue States. In open Red states, one can go out to dinner at local restaurants and bars, get haircuts and manicures, go to parks and theaters. In closed Blue states, there are curfews and fines, travel restrictions and quarantines, "essential" workers and everyone else.
The Democrat party erected a wall between Red and Blue states, literally overnight. If you were trapped behind the wall, you were denied the right to grow vegetable gardens in your backyard, to travel to vacation homes, to send your children to school, to hold family celebrations. Those on the open side were allowed to shop, to play sports, to operate businesses, to openly gather.
This "wall" between Red and Blue states is a foreshadowing of the "electronic wall" on the Mexican border that liberals had been chastizing President Trump about in place of the physical wall being built. Instead, they built that pseudo-wall between the states themselves, and woe to the Americans who found themselves on the wrong side of it.
West Berlin/East Berlin is a piss poor analogy... The East Berliners were incapable of picking up and moving to West Berlin, like the perverted POS communist-loving scum that move from cesspools of liberal dumbass like California, Illinois, New York, etc. and move to bastions of normalcy (Texas, Florida, etc.) to spread their dumbassery...
It's mostly the well-off in California and New York who make the news about leaving their states.

Don’t forget to dump the tanks.
Great. Another wall to build.
It’s only applicable to people like me who can’t get out of their crappy liberal state because they literally can’t afford to move.
Illinois. It sucks here, but I don’t have enough money to flee.
Would be nice to be flying over one of their “peaceful rallies” and let go .....
C.R. MacNamara : You married a Communist?
Scarlet : He’s not a Communist. He’s a Republican. He comes from the Republic of East Germany.
From “One, Two, Three”
Interesting analogy. What’s remarkable about East Berlin is that East Berliners put up with it. Here you had the counterexample of freedom and prosperity literally within eyeshot, yet they put up with their circumstance. Blue staters (not all of them of course) go a step further and actually *like* the lockdown.
I have a piece of the wall too, given to me by my German friend from CA, who was born in Berlin. Really a good reminder.
I agree.
I think the blue staters who are radical Trump-haters see the lockdown as a strategic weapon to hurt him, but the rest probably feel like human shields or hostages.
While the East Berliners seemed resigned to their fate (except the few who tried to escape), I doubt there were any who felt they were "sticking it to the West" by being there.
