In the wake of the protests and tragic violence at the United States Capitol last Wednesday, Parler, the popular alternative to Twitter, is facing an unprecedented crackdown from its competitors. In the span of 48 hours, both Apple and Google announced they would be removing the app from their smartphone app stores. Shortly thereafter, Amazon Web Services announced it would stop hosting Parler, thus also wiping out its web component.

For our current government, that is a Feature, not a Bug.
Newsweek. Blind pig found an acorn.
Or, more likely, they are desperate for money and so now look for a new market since their niche of 100% pure leftist propaganda is fully saturated.
This is like the 3rd or 4th article from Newsweek that I’ve agreed with. What’s the deal? Have they abandoned the lisberal plantation?
How did this content make it past Newspeak’s censors?
Someone must be Unpersoned!
They want to ‘rein in’ Big Tech, by putting it under the jurisdiction of the UN.
Once the right is destroyed the left will need a new right to go after. Newsweasle is scared....
Indeed. Doubleplusungood.
Thanks for getting right to the point.
Sorry Parler is ran by idiots
Who they heck builds anything like that on top of Amazon Web Services?
Poor planning, poor management is what killed Parler
Nothing stopped them from building their own datacenter or going someplace else or having back up plans or growth plan when Amazon might start to take notice.
And it isn’t like we don’t know who Bezos is
No, now that the election is over these propaganda outlets can play “impartial” - it happened after the 2016 election as well. To claw back some viewers and credibility, there were a few weeks of nearly-honest reporting before they doubled down and began four years of anti-Trump rhetoric.
If you want to build a truly free-speech platform you have to build it from the ground up where every layer is based on this ideal - so you need to have contingencies at each layer in case an earthquake of tyranny happens.
sorry, it only facilitated and accelerated the outcome, proving the point of how we have created and empowered the tyrants.
Our overlords.
And Dan Bongino bought ownership stake. oops.
“Once the right is destroyed the left will need a new right to go after. Newsweasle is scared....”
Nah. It will be Maoists vs New Deal types. Their goal for a very long time has been to move the center far enough left so that everyday life in the 80’s Soviet Union would be seen as the center.
And Dan Bongino bought ownership stake. oops.
That is the part I didn’t understand, either he got a piece of the pie really cheap and figure, see where it goes or he didn’t do any Due Diligence and didn’t know they didn’t own any of their infrastructure and the whole business was built on the whims of Bezos and Amazon.
All this has learned us if you don’t own the iron your software runs on, you don’t have a lease for capacity, then you don’t own anything and everything can be turned off by Amazon or whomever.
Their goal is to get rid of extremists on both sides, first it will be anyone on the right who supports Trump, then they will get rid of their own extremists.
The elites hate extremes, they just want business as normal so they can continue stealing the wealth of everyone else.
They actually hate illegal immigration, but go along with open borders because it pisses off the extreme left. Seriously, you can only have so many gardeners, house keepers and nannies.
The elites play both sides, they like people in camps because they become easy to control and manipulate. Race, immigration, abortion, gun control, etc are hot button issues they use to control and distract us while they build themselves power and resources to maintain what they already stole.
They are smart, very smart.
I would not be surprised they wanted Trump to win in 2016 so they can use him to destroy the right. And they Biden to win in 2020 so they can use him to destroy the left.
Think about it
Think about it in the mindset of an elitist
I’d like to know if there is somewhere where I could donate money to help them get rebuilt. It is pretty clear that platforms like this need to be built from IETF RFCs and opensource software under the control of reliable entities. That goes even for facilities. Anything you outsource is subject to sabotage and external pressure. There was someone using Mail Chimp recently who lost not only not their mail service but their email list as well. I have to say, Andrew Torba is looking like a true visionary. His years in Silicon Valley taught him how shallow, self serving, treacherous and vindictive these people are. They cannot be trusted with anything.
