It’s not been often, in the five years OffG has existed, that we’ve had to cop to missing something important within 24 hours of publishing an article – but this is one of those times.
In my article yesterday – “The Storming of the Capitol”: America’s Reichstag Fire? – I said this [my emphasis]:
“ Although there is not yet any talk of legislation [in response to the Capitol Hill riots], it’s certainly true there are whispers of purges and other measures to “protect the constitution”.
That quote did not age well, indeed it was wrong from the moment it went to print. Because, as it turns out, there has actually been “talk of legislation” for weeks – even months. Soon-to-be-President Joe Biden promised a new “domestic terrorism bill” back in November, according to the Wall Street Journal.
That is why you’re seeing so much usage of the phrase “domestic terrorism” in the last couple of days. It’s the meme-phrase. The primary talking point for this whole exercise. It was underlined in all the memos sent out to all the media outlets.
That’s why Joe Biden went to such lengths to distinguish “domestic terrorists” from “protesters” in his speech following the riots.
That’s why the Council on Foreign Relations had an interview with a “counter-terrorism and national security expert” published within 24 hours of the incident, in which he spends 4 paragraphs arguing that the people who “stormed the capitol” were domestic terrorists.
That’s why the Washington Post has got an article dedicated to “lawmakers and experts” arguing that the Capitol Hill protest was an act of “domestic terrorism”. And so have Vox. And Mother Jones.
That’s why ABC had an article about how “domestic terrorism and hate crimes” were a growing problem in America…a week before the riot took place.
And that’s why #TrumpisaDomesticTerrorist is trending on Twitter.
Georgetown University, a well-known spook college, published a paper in September 2020 titled the “The Need for a Specific Law Against Domestic Terrorism”, and op-ed pieces bemoaning the lack of such a law have been dotted through the press going back to last summer and even late 2019.
There was one published yesterday, in which a “senior FBI official” says “more could have been done” if there had been a “specific law outlawing” domestic terrorism.
“Domestic Terrorism” is clearly where it’s at in early 2021, so we can expect a brand new law regarding it…probably by March, at the latest.
What will “Domestic Terrorism” mean in this law? The answer to that is pretty much always “whatever they want it to mean.”
Certainly, it will include “incitement” and “hate speech”, I would expect “denialism” to make an appearance, and be downright shocked if “spreading misinformation” doesn’t get a mention. Don’t be surprised if “questioning elections” or “bringing democracy into disrepute” is made an outright crime.
It will probably be tied into the Covid “pandemic” in some way, too. After all, what is discouraging people from taking vaccines if not the very definition of “terrorism”, right? It’s possible that even climate change will get a mention as well. They like to slide that into every issue these days.
Joe Biden has claimed multiple times to be the author of the original Patriot Act, saying it was based entirely on a bill he proposed in the wake of the Oklahoma City bombing of 1995.
Well now he has a chance to work on the reboot too, and they are always so much better when you can get the original creative team back together.

Prosecutors decided for now not to proceed with charges against Leslie Grimes, one of the six Michigan people arrested during the insurrection at the Capitol on Wednesday, according to a District of Columbia official with knowledge of the situation.
Grimes’ father, Robert Grimes, told The Detroit News she was wrongfully arrested near a pro-Trump insurrection, which unfolded from a protest she and her Grand Rapids-area friends attended as counter-protesters.
Grimes was identified by the police as Logan Grimes when arrested. Grimes is a transgender woman who uses feminine pronouns, according to her father.
After spending a full day in a Washington, D.C., jail, Grimes headed back to Grand Rapids Friday, her father said. The 54-year-old Cadillac man said his whole family is opposed to the sitting president, and it’s been “horrible” to see his daughter’s name associated with violent acts committed in President Donald Trump’s name.
Now that she’s been released and a new presidential administration is around the corner, the elder Grimes said he’s “hoping the poster child for chaos in America can just go somewhere and hopefully a lot of this starts to diffuse. And I’m hoping Leslie gets the chance at breathing room.”...
The younger Grimes was arrested a few blocks north of the White House, just under two miles from the Capitol building under siege. She was charged with carrying a pistol without a license, carrying unregistered ammunition and carrying a large capacity ammunition feeding device — which Washington, D.C., law describes as a “magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device” that’s capable of accepting more than 10 rounds of ammunition...
But that gun and ammunition didn’t belong to Leslie, her father said — in fact, she didn’t know it was there until the police discovered it.
If convicted, Grimes’ charges could have put her behind bars for up to nine years or cost her more than $27,000 in fines.
While the charges against her could still be pursued in the future, local law enforcement is facing the enormous task of tracking down the hundreds of rioters who ransacked the U.S. Capitol building, most of whom were allowed to leave without citation.
The other five people from Michigan were charged with breaking Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser’s 6 p.m. curfew implemented as the rioting unfolded on the Hill. One was also charged with unlawful entry.
The group Leslie drove with to Washington had discussed bringing a firearm “as protection,” Robert Grimes said, but “one of the individuals misled some people” and didn’t tell the others that they had packed a gun in the trunk.
A Trump supporter near the site of the original protest kicked Leslie in the chest, knocking the wind out of her, Grimes said. Her friends picked her up and they fled in the vehicle, which was pulled over, he said. When police discovered the weapon, Leslie took responsibility for it, the father said
The friends “got away scot-free,” Robert Grimes said. “I raised my daughter to show accountability and be truthful.”
Leslie Grimes could not be reached for an interview Friday evening.

Leslie attends Black Lives Matter protests and is “out there campaigning for what (she) believes in. But (she) didn’t destroy any property, didn’t cause any problems.”...
Leslie Grimes and her friends have gone “to a number of these events all over America saying, well, ‘If they’ve got a right to scream and yell, we’ve got a right to say we disagree with you,’” Robert Grimes said.
Leslie’s arrest and release came as a climax to years of disillusionment with the state of American politics for Robert Grimes, who shuttered the comic book shop and non-profit he ran with Leslie due to financial strain related to the COVID-19 pandemic. He said many who came into his shop refused to wear a mask and lashed out at him.
“And then the last Facebook post we saw from (her) said (she) was heading to D.C. We were mildly concerned, but we didn’t think the president of the United States would launch an insurrection.”...
He said he’s dealt with backlash in the northern Michigan town due to the family’s political beliefs and, now, for the news reports about Leslie’s arrest. For him, it’s emblematic of a deep rift that’s far from healing.
“This is wrong. Michigan needs to grow up. America needs to grow up. America was built on diversity. Live with it, deal with it, be a good person.”

I remember a general making a speech in suit and tie after me graduating from the NCO accademy. He said he was pretty much useless and the NcOs were the back bone of the forces.... and he could have added that most politicians and commanders in chiefs are the weakest link of this weak link in the forces...
It might take some times, but while a citizen revolt is bad enough, it would behove on the police and others to really start thinking seriously about their pensions in the hands of police defunding Biden et al...
Just saying. It is almost pointless to politically protest for any of these presidents. I only protest for Trump on principle of the liberal-Rino Bs. But, bottom line, anyone campaigning in our days are far removed from the Jefferson riding horses leading troops to fight the Brits.
