Governor DeWine (R-OH), ready to lock down this red state.

Posted on 11/12/2020 4:33:58 AM PST by BuckeyeGOP

Yesterday DeWine gave an emergency address to the state. Essentially declaring war on small business.

All businesses will have to post mandatory mask wearing signs on their public entrances. It is the responsibility of the business to make sure employees and customers are wearing masks at all times. First offense is warning, then fine, then closure.

He announced the creation of the retail compliance board. Brown shirts that will be enforcing this.

In addition, he said he will make a decision on what to do about restaraunts, bars, etc in one week depending on how things are going. Obviously in a week they will be worse which means the final blow to restaraunts, bars, gyms, etc.

I believe this will be met with massive protests. There is zero appetite for this crap in this red state...especially with what is going on with the election.

Your view of the general public is very skewed, I know not of one single business owner that would agree. Sounds like your census consists of those that are on the public teat or Karens that are already heavily involved with the misinformation campaign.

You keep believing in the paranoria and beat that drum like a good little tinker toy soldier. I’ll continue to place my trust in empirical data/evidence, all tangibly supported.

145k new cases a day? Define cases? Those that are asymptomatic and just checking out of curiosity, those that have been admitted to hospitals or those that just have lingering antibodies... found during a regular checkup or for other procedural visits?

This virus is so scary that it only has a 99% chance of recovery!

CDC recently updated estimated infection fatality rates for COVID. Here are the updated survival rates by age group:

0-19: 99.997%
20-49: 99.98%
50-69: 99.5%
70+: 94.6%

The science for wearing homemade non tested face coverings by the general public as they go about their business in order to stop COVID is pretty much non-existent. Yet this seems to be the magic bullet of our public health officials. That it is presented as such pretty much guarantees persons who should not be out and about will think they are protecting others by wearing mask. You can also be sure that it means other proven methods to protect public health such as hand washing will be considered less important.

The studies (I have read) on mask wearing by the public all point out there is a very real possibility that risky behaviors could increase. Risky behavior such as prolonged close contact in crowded spaces with lots of different people. Though we have been assured that such behavior is safe provided one is shouting obscenities at the police or cheering on Biden’s false election results I have my doubts.

But whether it is lockdowns or mask mandates kill the economy seems the only solution politicians get from their health advisors. Time to put severe limits on so called emergency powers.

I still don’t understand how Governors got appointed dictators. They don’t seem to feel the state legislatures have a role here. The Governor is just passing laws that cripple businesses because, you know, it seems like a good idea to him.

And the courts have done little to stop it. All hail the executive branch.

You are right. I’m pretty sure every other cold virus did the same thing when it first appeared. But they were ages ago, before statistics. Eventually it will be everywhere, slightly sickening some, killing a few and being its own vaccine booster by way of constant exposure.

Statistically, we should see an abnormally low overall death rate beginning as early as next year because many who have died from COVID-19 would have otherwise died in the next few years anyway. You see this with any decimated cohort, often caused by war.

But there will be for the next several years people who need to be protected from premature death.

Thanks for that link.

The Court determined that the Massachusetts statute did not violate the 14th Amendment. In addition, the Court reasoned that under the 10th Amendment’s state police powers, states have the authority to enact reasonable legislative regulations to protect public health and safety which the Massachusetts statute sought to achieve

There is talk here of a "Massachusetts statute" and of "reasonable legislative regulations".

I have no problem with legislatures passing laws. But what we see today is mostly governors issuing dictats.

I don't see how the Supreme Court has justified that.

Very true. As with any communicable disease, protecting the vulnerable is the priority ... and we can do that — we’ve always done that — without shutting down our country and hurting our children who are growing up in an America of increasing tyranny. This is the greater threat than any virus.

Here it is link friendly. And thanks for the link.

The trick to posting links properly is to do it like this (please delete the pipe symbols from the example below, they are used so that I can show you how the code should look:

<|a href=https://mylinkurlhere>Text to show for link<|/a>

So for your case it would be something like this:

<|a href=https://www.mdchhs.com/2020/07/07/the-constitutionality-of-facemasks-and-covid-19/#:~:text=In%20a%207%2D2%20decision,Massachusetts%20statute%20mandating%20compulsory%20vaccination.&text=.%E2%80%9D%20Jacobson%20v.-,Massachusetts%2C%20197%20U.S.%2011%2C%2022%20(1905).,spread%20and%20transmission%20of%20smallpox.>mmichaels1970 is one cool cat!<|/a>. And humble too!

Just copy and paste the example above and remove the "pipe" symbols (|). When posting links, I like to hit the "Preview" button, and then test my link out by opening it in a new tab to make sure I did it correctly.

Yeah. The bar my daughter works for is on its last leg. Owner said he couldn't hold on much longer being forced to close at 10pm. This will probably be the end of him.

What my daughter saw in the 10pm closure orders was that the crowd was more dense than it would have been if the hours were extended. So it was counter-productive. Also, clients were drinking MORE alcohol in a faster amount of time to try to beat the 10pm closure. My daughter would get crushed at 9:45pm making several mixed drinks per patron as they sort of stocked up before closing.

Sounds degenerate, I know, but that's how it's been.

So things were made less safe in that regard as well.

Ok. So I read through your link. I focused specifically on this part:

Jacobson v. Massachusetts, 197 U.S. 11, 22 (1905). The Court determined that the Massachusetts statute did not violate the 14th Amendment. In addition, the Court reasoned that under the 10th Amendment’s state police powers, states have the authority to enact reasonable legislative regulations to protect public health and safety which the Massachusetts statute sought to achieve.

And the key words to me are: reasonable legislative regulation as in LEGISLATIVE. My biggest issue with all of these mandates is that the legislative branches have ceded all authority to the executive. In my opinion, the executive branch has no right to impose these mandates on the citizens. His role should be to lobby the legislative branch to impose them, and then he enforces or executes them.

The governor knows that the legislative branch does not have the guts to pass these measures. So instead, he does an end-around where he and his medical advisors just go ahead with enacting and enforcing them without legislative authority.

All of these mandates and regulations should first pass through the state legislature. If they need to be in session 24/7 during an emergency, so be it. Only then, should the governor, as head of the executive branch, announce that these regulations have been enacted and that he will be enforcing them.

Talk about skewed.

What percent of the general public do you think own a business?

I’m an Ohio resident and I see people wearing their masks.
I think the problem may lie with the emphasis on masks and not enough hand washing or use of hand sanitizers. Wearing the mask had lulled me into thinking that was enough until I started thinking about everything I touch that was handled by a stranger first. So I am getting in the habit of using sanitizers every time I get in the car after a meal or a trip to the store.
It is true that many in the Amish communities in northeastern Ohio are not wearing masks. I have witnessed that.

You are exactly right. BTW, my daughter works as a nurse at the largest hospital in the Clearwater Fl area, the largest retirement community in the country. She says they are nowhere near capacity.
