I'm beginning to wonder if I wasted a lot of my life serving in the military protecting the Constitution and the American People with what's going on now. Makes ya wonder and I don't think I'm alone!

I understand. It’s a huge sacrifice.
It was not wasted AT THE TIME. whether this republic continues is always at question and if it collapses of course it seems a waste. But at the very least you carried it forward at the time and that was worthy in my opinion.

All told, over 30 years wearing “US Army”.
Wouldn’t trade it for any other job.
I met some damn fine people.

It took a lot of good Sergeants to get me through 30 years.
I wish I could see each of them today and shake their hand and thank them.
The first one being that old Combat Engineer Sergeant who showed me how to shine boots.

The hippies threw rocks at us when we were practicing close order drill in the early 1970s. The football players caught them and we never had any further problems.
I am an old sheepdog. I don’t particularly care for sheep, but they are my sheep, and if someone tries to hurt them, they’ll find my jaws on their throat.

Most certainly not. Thanks from a fellow vet. I only did one enlistment but my dad was career, a niece that was career, an uncle that was career. Youngest daughter one enlistment. Oldest grandkid did two enlistments with the FL National Guard with a trip to Iraq. It was a little disconcerting when I was in with all the vitriol aimed at people in the military and it’s taken some years to understand we did good.
I really don’t give a damn what anyone else thinks...I’m proud of myself for serving MY country....
I don’t know who you are and really don’t care...
But I served MY country...............
never think that; never give in to doubt. Remember the sweat and blood you shed, fm bootcamp to the field.
Remember the friendships you made, or the welcome you get when you greet a fellow vet, knowing the bond you share is stronger than even the fact that you’ve never met before in your lives.
Or how about when you meet a war vet, from Iraq or Afghanistan? Can you not see your own face in theirs, older, more wrinkles perhaps, but just as patriotic?
Have you ever met and chatted with our older vets, war vets from ‘Nam, from Korea, or the Big One? I have, and looking at these fellow vets, seeing the ease with which we can talk despite the age differences, and each of us feel the camaraderie that comes from knowing we all took the Oath... and that that Oath has no expiration.
Remember all these things, Brother - and hold on to them; you have earned it. No doubt can ever take them away from you - and millions of our fellow, unhyphenated Americans know this and are thankful for it.

You aren’t alone. I too spent the best years and worst days of my life defending this country from enemies abroad while domestic enemies are ripping our nation apart. I’ve had calls from some of my old war buddies lamenting our current state of affairs. But here’s the good news: the Convention of States provides us a way to continue the fight. Son served 22 yrs,....Was Active in “Desert Shield”....now works in and with the Big Boys at the VA Administration. Was part of those who under Pres. Trump in Washington who gathered and changed the VA so those getting a free ride could be fired and Vets get the best of care!
The few, the proud, the chumps, lol. Happy belated birthday, Marines. Salute to all veterans this day. A special tribute to Robert D. Hottle (1948-2020). He was buried today. He was a much better man than me.
Does make one think back on perhaps the times one could have violated the Constitution in that capacity and made a bundle of money-— meaning EXACTLY like EVERY time a sworn Constitutional officer (VP Biden at the time) VIOLATED several clauses of the Constitution as he shook down and aided and abetted his son to shake down bribe money from foreign countries in exchange for access to the United State’s People’s Government.
That kind of thing, being known as TREASON in office, multiple times.
I am having those very same thoughts. Twenty two years and 4 deployments. Nine moves. Will it be all for naught? Thank you for your service!
The “better man” and “am I a good man” question- often used in self reflection that cannot be contemplated without the assurance of those who survived.
The question asked at the end of “Saving Private Ryan”, which mission was hardly as dangerous as so many more undertaken with horrific losses and strategic and tactical success.
Asked with shame that is not warranted— “why did I survive, Lord?”. And those who love you, no matter where or how many—will tell you, you were meant for what you have achieved in the greater knowledge and Love of God. And you will serve another purpose later in His eyes.
Can tell you without knowing a thing about your tribute, that you were watched over and preserved in this life BECAUSE OF your worth to our Lord in Heaven. To every thing there is a time and purpose... under Heaven Ecclesiastes. And YOU ARE a GOOD MAN, Sir! Always Faithful- Semper Fidelis. Grateful thanks for your Patriotism and Service.
