The few, the proud, the chumps, lol. Happy belated birthday, Marines. Salute to all veterans this day. A special tribute to Robert D. Hottle (1948-2020). He was buried today. He was a much better man than me.
The “better man” and “am I a good man” question- often used in self reflection that cannot be contemplated without the assurance of those who survived.
The question asked at the end of “Saving Private Ryan”, which mission was hardly as dangerous as so many more undertaken with horrific losses and strategic and tactical success.
Asked with shame that is not warranted— “why did I survive, Lord?”. And those who love you, no matter where or how many—will tell you, you were meant for what you have achieved in the greater knowledge and Love of God. And you will serve another purpose later in His eyes.
Can tell you without knowing a thing about your tribute, that you were watched over and preserved in this life BECAUSE OF your worth to our Lord in Heaven. To every thing there is a time and purpose... under Heaven Ecclesiastes. And YOU ARE a GOOD MAN, Sir! Always Faithful- Semper Fidelis. Grateful thanks for your Patriotism and Service.
