Election Day Stock Market Thread
Vanity for Discussion ^ | 11/3/2020 | LRoggy

Didn't see a thread for how the Stock Market is reacting today.

At 10:24am the market is up 670 points and as an Investment Manager in his 60's I'm telling everyone from experience this is the smart money deciding that the Republicans will have full control of the House, Senate and Presidency.

CNN says the market is up because it looks like a Biden victory (puke).

The two moron Wall Street Journal market analyst/journalists are assigning today’s massive uptick in the Dow to universal anticipation of a Biden win. Seems they went to the Russian Disinformation School of Economics.

I can’t believe that these money managers are all wrong.
Theres no covid news that would account for this although the gdp numbers might have figured in.

Stimulus was coming no matter who won. If DJ closes 700 points up, add 300+ points from yesterday, that is 1000 points UP after a down week?

Besides previous rallies with stimulus news were good for only 300 points or so on Dow. Market was down for several days because of almost all polls favoring Biden. Now polls have tightened, repubs have already taken a lead in Florida voting numbers.

To me this jump in market today and yesterday is because investors saw the stark contrast in record number of people showing up for Trump no matter where he held the 2 dozen rallies in just a week, and Biden’s rallies with Obama or Lady Gaga barely attract 200 people.

Stock market jump today is good news for Trump’s chances, if it holds up.

I’ve seen guidance recently that the market is looking for a sweep one way or the other as that will more likely result in a generous and speedy stimulus.
I felt like the markets were predicting a blue wave, then last week it started looking like a split and went down.
I’m hoping it is going up now because it’s seeing a red wave!

Well the market was up big in 2008 on Election day and O won as expected...then cratered the day after the election.

Not sure it is a good predictor of the outcome...

Just a feeling, I think we’ll pick up seats, but won’t get the House. That mean nasty Nancy behind POTUS at the SOTU again. *barf*

Agree. Winning the House back is a real stretch. Hell, I’m concerned about hanging on to the Senate.

qqq has been our favorite so called stock before and since I retired over 20 years ago. It and similar so called stocks have basically maintained our IRA balances in spite of required minimal withdrawals.

The Trump years have been a wonderful financial time for us.

My humble opinion...

A trading company knows they will thrive under a Republican administration and suffer under a Democrat. It then makes sense, since Republicans tend to leave Wall Street alone and Democrats try to regulate it, to kiss up to Democrats on the off chance that they will win. If you have given to Republicans and Democrats win, you are a target. If you gave to Democrats and Republicans win, your company will still do well.

That’s protection money paid to the Biden shakedown racket.

That’s exactly right. Astute observation.

This broker is optimistically predicting a major Republican sweep. Here in Georgia, there will be run-off between KELLY, COLLINS and Wartnocker. Costco stock continues to climb/

Maybe Wall Street salivating at opening backup up the China and Open Borders Cheap Labor Express again. Hope it’s rather some want their pre-covid Trump Economy back, please.

I (unfortunately) expect a “buying opportunity” in the next day or two with the civil unrest.

I agree with you. There could well be some significant rioting, and therefore a brief opportunity to capture some bargains. I always prefer buying on weakness.

“I’ve been a big QQQ holder for a long time.

It is a true capitalistic fund.

The Dow and S&P funds can be somewhat controlled by politics.

Stocks have to perform to get into QQQ and to stay there.

winning the house is *not* a stretch - simply flip house seats that DEMs won in 2018 that are in Trump districts - and they don’t need to flip them all, just enough. If you think POTUS is going to win the election then there will be coattails.

Switched over to CNBC at Noon EST (I refuse to watch Cavuto). They’re all talking about the market and individual stocks. What are they NOT talking about? THE ELECTION!!!

One of the oldest maxims I have about the media and news is that its often more important what ISN’T in the news than what is!
