Over the course of this day in 31, Lucius Aelius Seianus went from virtual master of the Roman Empire to strangulation at the order of the Senate. Known simply as Sejanus, he was of equestrian stock who rose to prefect the Praetorian Guard when Tiberius succeeded Augustus as Romes first citizen. It was not yet the infamous Praetorian Guard. Sejanus would make it so: his were the institutional aggrandizement long outliving Sejanus that would position the Guard to arbitrate imperial succession; his the persecutorial internal policing that made it a swords-and-sandals Gestapo.

Sejanus would make it soAmusing. Someone on that site obviously knows Patrick Stewart played Sejanus in I, Claudius.
Watched it back in the day via PSA ch. 13 in NY , and subsequently bought the DVD set of the series .
Its one of the very few shows for which I find youtube videos are banned.
Thanks. Great read.
Today’s media thinks it’s so new LOL!
Twittus Dorcus and Marcus Farcus are leading the new Praetorian guard for the democrat party
Sejanus’ son and 11-year-old daughter were also executed:
Tacitus Annals 5
It was next decided to punish the remaining children of Sejanus, though the fury of the populace was subsiding, and people generally had been appeased by the previous executions. Accordingly they were carried off to prison, the boy, aware of his impending doom, and the little girl, who was so unconscious that she continually asked what was her offence, and whither she was being dragged, saying that she would do so no more, and a childish chastisement was enough for her correction. Historians of the time tell us that, as there was no precedent for the capital punishment of a virgin, she was violated by the executioner, with the rope on her neck. Then they were strangled and their bodies, mere children as they were, were flung down the Gemoniae.

Anyone who thinks the media has changed in 2,000 years is a fool.
Sounds like how Comey and Wray imagine the FBI to be.
Absolute monsters.
Hey, Captain Picard in a Shatner toupee..........throw in some Holy Roman Empire soap opera, this would make a killer new Star Trek series. Too bad Star Wars poached ideas like pod races.
“Absolute monsters.”
Portrayed as heroes by their media, as they would be by today’s media.
Featured the late John Hurt as Caligula too.
And of course Brian Blessed as Augustus.
#11. Too late. They already had “Bread and Circuses” in the original Star Trek.
No to mention they threw a little Greek whammy in with Plato’s Stepchildren and Who Mourns For Adonis? Ancient Greece, Rome, Shakespeare, they mined it well in the franchise. That’s when it worked best.
John Hurt one of my favorite actors .
