Bruce Springsteen performs at the 12th annual Stand Up For Heroes benefit concert at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden on Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, in New York.
He was born in the U.S.A., but that doesnt mean hell stay here.
Things have changed since the 80s, in no-less-than-stunning ways.
Racial unity was on the rise, Bosom Buddies wasnt triggering, socialism was considered catastrophic, and the experiment known as America was championed.
Amid the Swatches and Rubiks Cubes and arcades, the country shook its Levis 501s to a boss musician known as the Boss.
And heres what he sang:
Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Im a long gone Daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Im a cool rocking Daddy in the U.S.A.
Now all-American Bruce Springsteen may soon be a long gone Daddy, via his new status as a cool rocking Aussie.
During an interview Thursday with the down-under nations Daily Telegraph, Springsteen said hell spring from somewhere new if Donald Trump comes out the victor next month.
Heres how the Human Touch hitmaker put it:
If Trump is reelected which he will not be; Im predicting right now hes gonna lose if by some happenstance he should be, Ill see you on the next plane.
As noted by The Hill, Bruce wasnt too confident of Joe Biden in 2018 he observed at the time, Democrats dont have an obvious, effective presidential candidate.
Not that hes been a softie for Trump. In June, he said the Commander-in-Chief needed to put on a f****** mask.
And last year, the Grammy gobbler (20, no less) offered this:
Its just frightening, you know? Were living in a frightening time. The stewardship of the nation is has been thrown away to somebody who doesnt have a clue as to what that means. And unfortunately, we have somebody who I feel doesnt have a grasp of the deep meaning of what it means to be an American.
Fast forward to next month, when the My Hometown man may know what it means to be an Australian in his new hometown.
And if he decides he was born to run, it wont be the first time the Dancing in the Dark dude based his location on politics: In April of 2016, he canceled a concert in North Carolina in protest of a law barring people from using the restroom at odds with their biological sex.
Online, he wrote of priorities:
Some things are more important than a rock show and this fight against prejudice and bigotry which is happening as I write is one of them.
Back to that touted flight the guitar man may have celebrity company in the air. Over the years, several entertainers talked of exiting America if it votes for the candidate they oppose.
As I covered last month, celebrated singer John Legend lamented thusly:
Every once in a while, you think about it. We were born and raised here, all of our families are here. It would be hard to leave. But I dont know what ones supposed to do when you have a leader who is trying to destroy democracy.
He was born in the U.S.A., too.
But it seems for some, national affection is affected by whoevers in the Oval Office.
Will the fall see singers and actors seek superior citizenship?
And what of other elections who wins in Congress, who wins at the local level, who wins in their new national nest?
Put into practice, itd be rough moving every two to four years. But perhaps to some, its worth it.
Maybe its the ticket to Glory Days
Bruce has been an insufferable ass for more than 20 years. Does anyone really care what this has been thinks?
Every time I hear him sing I wonder when he’s finally going to pass that stone.
Just another loud mouthing chickenshit entertainer threatening the USA with his immediate departure when Trump wins .... just like 2016 all these slimy loudmouths will hunker down in the USA and try to make life miserable for everyone else.
In all seriousness, who cares?
I am SO looking forward to this a-hole leaving and hopefully to take a bunch more a-holes just like him. And promise NEVER TO COME BACK.
Promises promises, but they never do it. That odious hideous Streisand sow is still here in spite of saying shed leave if Trump were elected.
You’re NOT the Boss of me!
Springsteen wasn’t, isn’t much of a singer agreed. A Great Southern Land don’t need him around anyhow. Apologies to Lynyrd Skynyrd
Springsteen is really annoying when he sings in that fake southern drawl.
I know a guy who has nothing but Springsteen music. Nothing else. Never understood it.
Good news...many nutball entertainers say these kind of things. Bad news is don’t tell the truth.
Born to Run AWAY!
When I was in college back in the 80s a comedian came to campus. A big part of his routine was his acoustic guitar and mocking popular musicians of the era.
The most memorable part of his gig was his cutting on how formulaic Springsteen's songs were/are. He had members of the audience provide him with the three essentials for any springsteen song:
1. The name of a town in the northeast.
2. A girl's name
3. An American made car
Once he had these, he improved a full 3 minute springsteen song, which quite honestly, was as good as anything springsteen had recorded.
Springsteen’s music and voice has always been unbearable to listen to anyway. Go sing to the aborigines.
Gee, what did the Abos ever do to you, to make you want to punish them like that?
I wouldn’t walk across the street to hear Springsteen.
