I believe that it only takes a majority vote to adjourn the Senate.

President Trump would do well to appoint a very conservative black female in the spirit of healing and unity

Should this happen, Trump had better not pick a Fey Wray.

no need, you can do a supreme court nominaton in the lame duck session AFTER the election but before everyone takes office in January if necessary also. John Adams is the most famous lame duck nomination to the supreme court.

Republicans that don’t vote yes on a Trump nominee better not think they get a yes vote when elections happen again.

The ones willing to pull the retirement stunt, didn’t they do that back in 2018? So the ones in power now are there because they want to be, for various reasons.

It is a plan b, sure.

It will not happen. Mitch will not let a recess appointment occur.

“I’m sure you’re right about it being a majority vote to go to recess.”

There was a thread on this from 4 years ago (regarding Merrick Garland), it was a pipe dream for Scheumer...the difference now is that the Senate majority supports the president (at least on judges) - and so they just may recess, and avoid the circus of hearings and personal debasement of whoever Trump chooses.

And like you say, it will NEUTER Roberts, as we’ll win 5-4 even without him. Going on recess also has the advantage of IMMEDIATELY filling the seat, just as the Dems are in trying to steal the election.

It might even be a better move than nomination and hearings...as a lot of cheating can be done in those intervening weeks.

China apparently won’t allow The Turtle to go into recess.

Plan B might be necessary.

Murkowski and Grassley have already announced they don’t intend to vote on a justice. That leaves Collins and Romney as possible toss-ups.

So if Republicans can only muster 48 votes, Plan B is it.

Not sure what vote you are talking about but that Senate vote resides right there.

Just do it. Dems are planning mail fraud all over this nation.

He is owned and will allow many number of election scams to proceed.

With a new 5-4 Conservative majority (Roberts being among the 4 on the Liberal side), will Roberts still be blackmailed?

Since he will no longer be the "swing vote", will he be free to join the Conservatives and form a 6-3 majorint?

The hearings have to be short. The dems were disgusting during the Cavanaugh hearings- Mitch just needs to remind them of that.

While the President can indeed fill a vacant position on the Supreme Court with a recess nominee. It’s only good until the end of the next Senate session. Which is always less than 2 years.

It would be better to get the senate to confirm a conservative than to make a temporary appointment that will expire within 2 years.

It would be nice to have a conservative in place to answer any upcoming election questions. They have 46 days until the election.

If they aren’t going to vote on Trump’s nominee, they won’t give him a recess.

No need for complications. Just get it done with. Yes a few cities will burn down but will happen only once.

Actually I guess they could recess the Senate for one day.
Trump could appoint a recess nominee to the bench and immediately nominate them for a permanent position.
Senate comes back and takes up the hearing.

But they need to confirm this year, because you don’t want to seat a new senate.

Senator McConnell is on board...and he’s been pretty good at getting good judicial nominations approved..
