President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday which curbs the H-1B outsourcing of jobs at government agencies.
“We believe jobs must be offered to American workers first,” Trump told attendees at a signing event in the White House.
Staffing companies have used the H-1B program to fill roughly 18,000 jobs in government agencies with foreign contract-workers.
A White House statement said:
President Trump is signing an Executive Order to create a policy where Federal agencies will focus on United States labor in lucrative Federal contracts.
It would be unfair for Federal employers to replace perfectly qualified Americans with workers from other countries.
The Executive Order will require all Federal agencies to complete an internal audit and assess whether they are in compliance with the requirement that only United States citizens and nationals are appointed to the competitive service.
The Department of Labor will also finalize guidance to prevent H-1B employers from moving H-1B workers to other employers’ job sites to displace American workers.
“Outsourcing hundreds of workers is especially detrimental in the middle of a pandemic, which has already cost millions of Americans their jobs,” the statement said. “President Trump’s actions will help combat employers’ misuse of H-1B visas, which were never intended to replace qualified American workers with low-cost foreign labor.”
Many of the contract workers are imported for about a year, so they can learn how to do the job from an office in India.
Many foreign workers accept low wages for work in the United States because the U.S. work is preferable to work in India, China, or elsewhere. Also, U.S. employers keep their foreign workers on the job by dangling the promise of green cards and citizenship. For example, at least 300,000 Indian visa workers are working while they wait for promised green cards.

It’s an obvious start, but the real problem is the hundreds of thousands of H1-Bs already here.
They have changed the demographics and politics of the Santa Clara valley enormously in the last 25 years.
In addition to putting hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work.
The issue has been acknowledged and now something has been done about it.
Finally.
This issue has been ignored by every single President until now, of course since it began.
However, this will not be enough for some people.

Ten years (40 quarters). My dad was on civil service retirement and was considering how much extra he would have to work to get SS also. He decided it wasn't worth the effort.

The number of Indian H1B and other visa trash almost equals the 5 million underemployed and unemployed American software engineers and other related STEM fields. Coincidence? I think not.

I started in Silicon Valley in ‘88 and was a minority until I left in 2002.
That IS amazing.
Redmond is creepy to walk through. There aren’t any Americans on the streets. White people typically turn out to be Russians or Ukrainians. The Indians are everywhere, including running the checkstands at the grocery stores.
I didn’t think anything could be worse then Sunnyvale or Cupertino.

Actually, that was precisely the intent of those who wrote the H-1B legislation for their corporate globalist johns.
Even the local police have trouble as Indians with no previous American driving experience bring their 3rd world driving skills to the roads. Bel-Red Road is absolutely dangerous as Indians with Microsoft-provided credit cards and credit race along in new sports cars. The same credit not extended to Americans.
Whole areas of Redmond/Bellevue are Indian-only. The Fred Meyer there is absolutely overrun by Indians. The Microsoft store in the Bellevue Mall hired only Indians (Americans are too low-life to work Microsoft retail, I guess). Americans only work in fast food or in stocker positions at grocery stores (that work is below Indians)
When I did DoorDash there did a month, Indians never tipped and always left the lowest ratings. They absolutely hate Americans. Dalits keyed my car when they drive the wrong way into a one-way parking lot and refused to back up when I went in to pick up an order. Redmond police just said file an insurance claim.
