It’s not that the tests are “false positive”, it’s that they are being misused.
It’s a test for a piece of viral RNA (a gene, actually). How useful it is depends on how long after exposure pieces of RNA hang around.
Remember, DNA can be recovered from Egyptian mummies and frozen mastodons.
The most important group for understanding the COVID pandemic is these asymptomatic people. The bad news is that a fraction of them are “Presymptomatic” and are shedding infectious virus like crazy, while most of them are exposed/not infectious, either “recovered” or in some as-yet-not understood state.

It's worse than you know. They keep going back to the same labs and when asked why they won't drop the clearly failing labs and switch to accurate ones, they'll respond that they're desperate because they can't find many that will do the tests.
Not finding many to do the tests points toward lawyers telling honest labs to stay away from this fraud.
It was hard to see them, they were all on their knees.
