The Dehumanizing Condescension of White Fragility: The popular book aims to combat racism but talks down to Black people.

I must admit that I had not gotten around to actually reading Robin DiAngelo’s White Fragility until recently. But it was time to jump in. DiAngelo is an education professor and—most prominently today—a diversity consultant who argues that whites in America must face the racist bias implanted in them by a racist society. Their resistance to acknowledging this, she maintains, constitutes a “white fragility” that they must overcome in order for meaningful progress on both interpersonal and societal racism to happen.

White Fragility was published in 2018 but jumped to the top of the New York Times best-seller list amid the protests following the death of George Floyd and the ensuing national reckoning about racism. DiAngelo has convinced university administrators, corporate human-resources offices, and no small part of the reading public that white Americans must embark on a self-critical project of looking inward to examine and work against racist biases that many have barely known they had.

So I learned that black people are like anyone else, but that a white person can be targeted by them just for being white.

Interesting aside here but if it gets known expect more book burnings.

The original novel M*A*S*H was an excellent account about, amongst other things like war and surgery, an integrating US Army. One of Hawkeye's fellow doctor-draftees and tent-mate was a neurosurgeon with the nickname of 'Spearchucker', gotten as he was his college's QB and black. There was nothing further about race in the novel EXCEPT for this bit when Spearchucker had a group of friends in the tent, all black. Afterwards he asked Hawkeye why he had not stayed in the tent and Hawkeyes simple reply was "Do you like everyone who is black just because they are black?" I don't have the book in front of me so I am going by memory, however this was good race relations in a BETTER time.

On the one hand, she argues in Chapter 1 that white people do not see themselves in racial terms; therefore, they must be taught by experts like her of their whiteness...

One of the reasons for that is that people with white skin tend to see themselves not so much as a race, but as a variety of ethnic minority subgroups within the American melting pot. Until several generations have passed between the original immigrant and his or her descendants, many, if not most, families inquire about the ethnic origins of the person their children intend to date or marry. The reasons are not about race, but about cultural compatibility with religion, customs and food.

Blacks from many tribes and languages have been perceived as one “race” by skin color when transplanted into a European-originated country; and they quite naturally see whites in the same generalized way; but there is actually great variety in both groups.

Likewise, there is a wide range of racial attitudes in both groups.

Commies like to lump many disparate small units into a fwe large ones to manipulate political power.

Ive been reading McWhorter since he first started publishing for general audiences in the 90s. He makes well-reasoned arguments. As a linguist, and while not a conservative per se, he truly believes that words have meaning, and does not put up with the flimsy emotional argumentation of the left.
