Boeing communications chief Niel Golightly just quit his job because an employee complained that 33 years ago, he had written that he was against women in combat.
According to this article from Reuters, in a 1987 article, Golightly had written:
“At issue is not whether women can fire M-60s, dogfight MiGs, or drive tanks. Introducing women into combat would destroy the exclusively male intangibles of war fighting and the feminine images of what men fight for – peace, home, family.”
33 years after Golightly’s article was published, a Boeing employee complained about the above quote.
Golightly responded by resigning.
This is beyond insane.
Everyone says things that someone somewhere might someday complain about. By the above logic, no one should ever have any job ever.
I wonder how radical leftists are going to square their current “cancel culture” with their current promise of a guaranteed job that is being promised as part of their Green New Deal.
My maternal grandfather fought in WWII under Tito. He was a courier for the communists, and got rewarded with a directorship (like a mayor) of a small town after the war.
He picked the wrong side (Russians) in the post-war struggle between Stalin and Tito. Family connections with the right side kept him from being killed.
Since there were no unemployed in glorious communism, Grandad got to be a security guard. That’s where I remember him in the ‘70’s when he took me to work. His office was in the basement of one of the new high-rises in Belgrade, with a broken sink, and a taped up lead pipe as a weapon. He didn’t wear a uniform, and just showed up to get his pay, a very bitter man at that point. And still a very stalwart communist, saying they were doing it all wrong.
And that’s how commies do it.
Sure, that’s always the excuse they use.
They’re doing it wrong.
Funny how nobody has been able to do it right yet.
I do not see how safe passenger aircraft can be builtin such an apprent politically correct corporate culture. It seems that most of American big business just runs itself.
I clearly remember when we lost the abortion debate, the gay marriage debate, etc.
I also remember that "Women in Combat" was one of the major reasons the Equal Rights Amendment failed: the average woman did not want to follow her feminist comrades onto the battlefields.
How can we even have a Culture War when battles are won without ever having been fought to the end?
Gone Fishin’. We might just never come back.
The above comment didn’t clarify anything. “Stepping down” could mean quitting or retiring.
I think he was doing his own real world equivalent of going Galt.
It’s where I’m headed. In about 11 months, give or take...
Yep. he’s probably going Galt.
We know who the guy is...I want to know the name of the complainer.
Boeing is Mostly Dead but it can survive if and the if is not in great health either
33 years ago I was against women in combat and I still am.
Watch the movie Chernobyl. You will see where this will end if it keeps going. Whether all the white males who actually know what they are doing quit, or are fired by PC, the incompetent but oh so politically correct replacements will take over, and then you have the makings of Chernobyl type thinking in any business, any industry.
PC, loyalty to the Party is what is important, scientific truth, real life application principles, are not important.
PS: She was my cousin too.....
= = =
That’s not bad.
That makes it OK.

It was during the 1990’s that I noticed people preferred being lied to about project cost / time. Didn’t matter that it always proved to cost more and take longer. They always went for the “cheap and quick” lie.
You are correct. This can balloon into something extraordinarily dangerous. Like with ATC, and even more dangerous things like you mentioned.
I remember being floored in 1986 that anyone could even possibly think that doing a “Chernobyl test” would not turn out exactly as it turned out. It was beyond obvious. Even with a layman’s understanding of coolant/moderators against such a force.
Itd have more impact than the stupid boycott theyre trying today.
quitting or retiring
***********
Well in his case it I doubt it meant retiring since he had
been on the job less than six months. In either case he
essentially said I’m gone.
I just wonder what is the number of sjw people doing business with boing or Walmart of any other business that is bowing down to these people. How about if we just leave politics and gays, and blacks and every other element that is not part of a business alone. Ignore it. Would boing have lost even one sale because of what this guy wrote 33 years ago? Are there that many Karen’s in charge of airlines that they could veto a purchase? How many sjw’s have the actual power to influence even one airplane sale? This crap has gone way beyond anything sensible. Why don’t us normal people use our veto power and stop doing business with companies who embrace the cancel culture.
Push them in, and enjoy the sound of terminal impact of their political dreams like the Bowl of Petunias turned into a Whale in Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
Political dreams, because Annals of Leftist Autophagy.
Look what they're doing to J.K. Rowling even after she cucked enough to make Dumbledore queer.
The same happened at PdVSA in Venezuela. All of the competent workers were fired since their political loyalties were questioned. Only the incompetent remained, who were really really good at party slogans. It was not long until the refineries were broken. Now Venezuela has to import gasoline.
