My maternal grandfather fought in WWII under Tito. He was a courier for the communists, and got rewarded with a directorship (like a mayor) of a small town after the war.
He picked the wrong side (Russians) in the post-war struggle between Stalin and Tito. Family connections with the right side kept him from being killed.
Since there were no unemployed in glorious communism, Grandad got to be a security guard. That’s where I remember him in the ‘70’s when he took me to work. His office was in the basement of one of the new high-rises in Belgrade, with a broken sink, and a taped up lead pipe as a weapon. He didn’t wear a uniform, and just showed up to get his pay, a very bitter man at that point. And still a very stalwart communist, saying they were doing it all wrong.
And that’s how commies do it.
Sure, that’s always the excuse they use.
They’re doing it wrong.
Funny how nobody has been able to do it right yet.
