President Trump is hosting a rally this weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at an indoor arena with space for more than 19,000 people. Meanwhile, Black Lives Matter protests continue outdoors in cities around the globe. Both rallies and protests involve large crowds, standing close together, which means people could presumably catch the coronavirus at either type of event. But scientific evidence suggests that gathering indoors, without masks, as Trump's campaign plans to do this weekend, is a much more dangerous place for the coronavirus to spread than outside at a protest.

They are right. The key is indoors. It would be good if they could do this at some outdoor sports arena. The problem is stiflingly hot summer temperatures.

The protests are outdoors, meaning that, they have a much wider area for coronavirus to spread, while indoors events have a limited area for the virus to spread in.

And, most of the protesters don't wear masks, while the Trump rally will have attendees wearing masks.

While that’s a possibility, there is as great - or greater - likelihood that Trump loyalists could attend while being infected but asymptomatic. It seems that many (or most) people who have it don’t even know they are carriers.
