Stupid is as stupid does.
Given that and the risk of another looter-fest, I'd leave town. F* 'em. Waaaaay too much history.
In the south side of my city, grocery chains just started to open stores in the last few years. It was risky, and always touch and go with the criminals in the area. But they stayed. So far.
Luckily, we didnt have this kind of destruction here. But you can bet your bottom dollar that if we had, these grocery chains would close their stores in the area and never open back up.
Neither to I, until they realize they have to head to the suburbs for subsistence. That’s where the SHTF.
“Parts of Gary look like Berlin in 1945.”
The difference is they were Germans and actually fixed it. There is no hope for the Garys of the country. What conclusion is an observer supposed to draw?
Maybe they can get DoorDash or UberEats to deliver. Of course your food might never get there.
[The profit margin for a grocery store is 1.5% to 2.2%. I worked with a redistributor and that was the typical range for their clients.

In its worst recent year, that number was closer to 1%.
Perhaps it will get better if they elect more democrats. These neighborhoods were targeted for one reason. Destroy Progress Created by Trump
I wonder if anybody will be alive in Chicago, next year at this time.
That “Don’t Be Offended...” saying perfectly expresses what I’ve been thinking.
If the people in those areas wanted to keep their grocery stores, the civilized residents of those areas should have protected them and quelled the riots themselves. If the politicians won’t let the police do it, it’s up to the citizens.
so where are all these concerned activists that claim black lives matter? why aren’t they offering free rides to these ‘generationally disadvantaged’ folks so they can get meds and groceries?
I guess if something takes more effort than walking down a street yelling, it’s not worth doing?

Black neighborhoods lose services and stores, most permanently after these riots. It it is ever thus. Why would a businessman invest money he is likely to lose suddenly? Those that do locate in those neighborhoods are high priced, partly because of high insurance costs and partly because of high merchandise loss to robbery and shoplifting. There are liabillities to being a barbarian population in the middle of civilization. It was not this way 70 years ago. Negros in the 40s and 50s were moving into the north from the poverty stricken south and entering into the status of Immigrants, repeating the progress of large immigrant communities before them- the Irish, the Poles, the Italians. Negroes wee finally breaking through into the mainstream of middle class America then LBJ and the Democrats ended it all and confined them to the big city plantations with the War on Poverty.
Ah, finally they get Michelle’s food desert.
Correct. But every grandma’s precious angel did it to her.
We are going to be on the hook to pay for their food delivery.
The residents? How about the store and building owner? Sheesh.
“Most of these looted stores probably opened when their surrounding areas were lily-white. “
Yes they were ...60 plus years ago when we split just before the storm.
