...My problem with the shutdown orders wasnt that they couldnt slow the rate of infection; I assumed they did. My argument has been that 1) the cost of the shutdown orders in human sickness, death, poverty and misery is far too high for any marginal benefit they might confer, and 2) temporarily slowing the diseases spread is of little or no value, since the shutdowns must inevitably end, and when they do, the disease will still be there, continuing to infect people.
If the rate of infection actually fails to rise when the shutdowns end, it implies that my view of the shutdowns was too generous. If infections dont increase, it suggestsproves, arguablythat the shutdowns were absolutely useless, as they failed even to slow the spread of the Wuhan virus.
So what is going on here? Glenn Reynolds says, Its looking like this is going to turn out to be a seasonal virus that will fade away over the summer. And might come back in the fall...

In the next few weeks we will have our answer.
So, everybody can stay calm and wait or...
We can yell and scream, name-call, finger-point, and howl at the moon.
Hmm—I wonder what folks here will choose...
Otherwise moon howlers will have to wait until next week when the newly waxing moon begins making it's nocturnal appearance just after sunset.
I have chosen to live my life and respect those that want to social distance, wear masks and stay isolated. I go to the stores that are open and plentiful here in Raleigh. I have attended 2 Tuesday protests with thousand of my fellow NCers standing shoulder to shoulder. Que Sira sira!
I hope people can really crunch some numbers in the next few months. How early did it appear? How many cases were there really? How much did we over count the deaths?
My belief is that the lockdown achieved less than expected. The deaths were less than reported. I say this was a flu season comparable to 2017 and far less severe than 1969. Our over-reaction was unwarranted.
If this thing “returns” in the Fall, we should be prepared to NOT panic.
IF it happens it will be 1st to 2nd week of June, right after Memorial Day Weekend.
Last weekend in North Central PA the rail trails and water ways were busy. Cyclists, canoe, kayak, hikers and fisherman. I met up with a cyclist group from Berks Co. were at a rest point on the trail. They are from a lockdown red zone and feel the way I do. Normally, everyone stays more than 6 feet apart. You are outside.
You will more likely to get rona going to Walmart but, not between two State Forests.
In Florida we are in phase II. Here in the north part of the state restaraunts are now 50% capacity inside dining, barbershops, salons and all beaches open 100% and hallelujah its a miracle....were all still alive...Imagine that. Now if theyd just get rid of the one way isles in grocery stores and walmart etc....what a dumb idea.
How dare you!! People with high risk conditions stayed home and fully supported businesses financially by ordering delivery and buying gift cards.
What’s Disgusting is self-proclaimed “heroes” who are just as much control freaks and judgmental scumbags as the Leftists.
Also, our golf courses never did close.
I believe what we will see is the numbers of cases remaining steady. Maybe a few ups and downs. Lots of competing factors to push the case number both up and down. However, I believe we will see the mortality rate falling off fairly significantly.
I’m not above howling at the moon. It can be rather cathartic.
Georgia is one of the first to “open”... but it’s not open like it used to be. Yes, it’s open... some stores are still using curb service.. Walmart has men at the door... they are keeping it uncrowded.. many stores do not have enough help. .. I need to buy a dishwasher and am hesitating because not sure there are installers, drivers to deliver it, etc...
so when it gets more normal... it will pick up.. but there are still face masks and hesitation ...
a mess o' shit.
In the next few weeks we will have our answer.

I agree. It is too soon to see any big swing in tnfections or deaths. At this point we are in a painfully slow decline from the peak rates. But down is down and that is a good thing.
Going forward, the absolutely necessary to lift the lockdown rules will inevitably push the rates higher.. But that slow downtrend and, hopefully, a seasonal downturn could offset the expected bump up in caseloads.
A month from now we will know if that is what is happening. But it is too soon to make the call right now.
Apparently, many are either prone to panic or prefer to live in a state of panic and fear.
It’s a whole other topic, but I think people have absorbed too much television over the past few decades. Everyone on TV has such an interesting life! There’s always so much drama and excitement! Golly! I wish my life were as adventuresome as the life of a TV character!
And the result seems to be a society of drama queens where a lot of people attempt to be in “crisis mode” on a daily basis. It’s like living in a TV show! And I’m the star!
Why are the flu numbers the same if all this virus crap works??
Proof that this virus isn’t the monster people stupidly claimed it would be. With ZERO PROOF of anything, people made absurd predictions of millions dead and destroyed their country. Things cannot return to where they were. We have enough feeble minded people suffering from nosophobia of COVID-19 that they are willing to die in place.
When the money runs out, watch out.
How dare you!! People with high risk conditions stayed home and fully supported businesses financially by ordering delivery and buying gift cards.
Whats Disgusting is self-proclaimed heroes who are just as much control freaks and judgmental scumbags as the Leftists.
1) I am no control freak. I am not the one advocating for the closing of churches, cancelling of weddings, graduations, and festivals, shutdowns of restaurants and stores for weeks longer than after the initial two-week bend the curve, lets not overwhelm the hospitals period.
2) I never proclaimed myself to be a hero. Im not old, overweight, nor have any other risk factor for getting complications from this or any other virus. But I do know people who fall into one or more of these categories and some have been going out these past several weeks. Others I know who do not fall into these categories have been cowering in fear.
The former to me are heroes because they recognize the Left is using overblown hype about this virus to attempt to destroy the economy so that Trump will not be re-elected and they, the Left, can take over. These folks are also smart enough to realize that once the Left takes over, there will be not be enough money for the elderly to get anything close to the level of healthcare they were getting. Medicare and Medicaid was already in trouble. Our state had to already kick thousands off public healthcare programs due to loss in tax revenue from the shutdowns.
3) Everyone is judgmental. We all have a moral, political and or some other compass through which we view the world. Leftist/Demonrats want total control and to make others lives miserable. This is why we see so many mayors and governors restricting access to beaches and parks—the very places people need to be now to get fresh air, sun, exercise, and some relaxation amidst all of this. These politicians don’t want people to do the things that would keep them healthy.
So yes, I am judging people. I am judging them for not seeing the danger their acquiescence to these mayors and governors has for the future of our country and their own children and grandchildren. And I find these people just as contemptible as these mayors and governors.
