And just like that, cruising in cool cars became a popular pastime again.

Prescott Valley has an “old retired guys fixing up cars” reputation.

Back when I was a teenager, me and a couple of buddies wanted to go in together and buy a used hearse, then add headers and side pipes, a sunroof, a gonzo stereo, and wire wheels. Too bad we were all broke and unemployed. LMAO Would have been a cool project car. Driving around town at half the speed limit, Kashmir blasting out the windows......

“Prescott Valley has an “old retired guys fixing up cars” reputation.”

Not just there. I lived in Scottsdale. During the good weather months, on any given weekend there may be 4 major car shows around the Phoenix area, from Goodfellas Car shows with hundreds of high end customs, to smaller clubs, to serious auctions like Mecum and Barretts. The number of custom, classic, and exotic cars and private collections and showrooms in that area is just insane— probably because they are many retired executives, more celebrities than in Beverly Hills, and plenty of plain old guys like me who grew up in the Midwest car muscle car culture.

Correct on both counts. And one of the country’s most conservative areas.

OK, maybe cruising around in cool cars will never be a very popular pastime again, outside a certain age group.

But, going for a long drive might become popular again. It’s the only adventure we can take, without getting too close to other people.
