Left-wing activists made multiple false and misleading claims on Thursday following President Donald Trumps White House Coronavirus Task Force press briefing in which the president commented on new scientific findings from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The activists falsely claimed that Trump urged Americans to inject themselves with disinfectant and told people to drink bleach.
To understand Trumps remarks, its important to first understand the full context of what was said at the press briefing.
Bill Bryan, Under Secretary for Science and Technology at DHS, said at the press briefing, Our most striking observation to date is the powerful effect that solar light appears to have on killing the virus, both surfaces and in the air. Weve seen a similar effect with both temperature and humidity as well, where increasing the temperature and humidity or both is generally less favorable to the virus.
Bryan talked about the half-life of the coronavirus on surfaces like door handles and stainless steel surfaces, saying that when they inject UV rays into the mix along with high temperatures and increased humidity that the virus dies quickly.
The virus does not survive as well in droplets of saliva, and thats important because a lot of testing being done is not necessarily being done, number one, with the COVID-19 virus and number two, in saliva or respiratory fluids, Bryan continued. And thirdly, the virus dies the quickest in the presence of direct sunlight under these conditions.
Bryan continued by noting that DHS also tested if certain types of disinfectant could kill the coronavirus.
Weve tested bleach, weve tested isopropyl alcohol on the virus, specifically in saliva or in respiratory fluids, and I can tell you that bleach will kill the virus in five minutes, Bryan said. Isopropyl alcohol will kill the virus in 30 seconds, and thats with no manipulation, no rubbing. Just bring it on and leaving it go. You rub it and it goes away even faster.
Bryan added, Were also looking at other disinfectants, specifically looking at the COVID-19 virus in saliva.
Immediately following these remarks, Trump said:
So, Im going to ask Bill a question that probably some of you are thinking of if youre totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposing when we hit the body with a tremendous, whether its ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said that hasnt been checked, but youre going to test it. And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said youre going to test that too. Sounds interesting. And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so itd be interesting to check that, so that youre going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me. So, well see, but the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. Thats pretty powerful.
A few moments later, ABC News reporter Jon Karl asked Bryan, The president mentioned the idea of a cleaner, bleach and isopropyl alcohol emerging. Theres no scenario where that could be injected into a person, is there?
No, Im here to talk about the finds that we had in the study, Bryan responded. We dont do that within that lab at our labs.
Trump then clarified his remarks: It wouldnt be through injections, youre talking about almost a cleaning and sterilization of an area. Maybe it works, maybe it doesnt work, but it certainly has a big affect if its on a stationary object.
Trump later raised the possibility of whether UV rays could kill the coronavirus if it was on a persons skin, in particular if it were on their hands.
If theyre outside, right, and their hands are exposed to the sun, will that kill it as though it were a piece of metal or something else? Trump asked.
I dont want to say it will at the same rate because its a non-porous surface, but what we do know is that we looked at the worst case scenario and the virus lives longer on non-porous surfaces, Bryan responded. So porous surfaces, it doesnt live quite as long, so in theory what you said is correct.
Left-wing activist Chris D. Jackson wrote that Trump had urged Americans to inject themselves with disinfectant.
Jake Maccoby, a former speech writer for the Obama Justice Department, wrote on Twitter that Trump had told people to drink bleach.
Others have repeated the false claims.
Trump asked the question: “And is there a way we can do something like that...?”
He should have known that the media would immediately transform it into “Trump says inject bleach.”
Yes, this occurred at yesterday's press conference. There might be short clips of this segment, but the full press conference is on YouTube.
Im convinced Trump plays the media for the fools they are. 🤷🏽♀️ Heres a visual example of Injecting UV light into the body of a patient as a disinfectant to kill viruses and bacteria 🦠 #covid_19 #disinfectant #Trump2020 🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/uJkNhgIThQ— Angela Stanton-King (@theangiestanton) April 24, 2020
I watched it also. The reporter, out of the blue asked this idiotic question, and the President immediately answered in no uncertain term that absolutely not and stated clearly that those items were being discussed regarding cleaning surfaces. I commented to my wife that the stupid media would be reporting everywhere tomorrow that he said to drink bleach and inject themselves with cleaning fluids. Sheesh!!!
Jeffrey Dahmer used to drill holes through his victims skulls and inject bleach directly into their brains. I wonder how many of these “journalists” had this done to them?
That is exactly what happened the damn reporter brought up the injecting the disinfectants into people I was STUNNED a reporter could ask such a stupid question and then they were off to the races!! NOW the media has completely made up this lie and run with it everywhere!! It wasnt Trump that was stupid it was the reporter that was totally stupid{!
There are no stupid questions.
Unless of course the question was by a “journalist”.
Neil Cavuto just made a complete arse out of himself and says that is what he meant and said.
I think Cavuto could use a little ‘disinfectant’ up his uhh .. it might help him clear his head.
PS - Dems tell patriots to eat poop all the time.. so .. what’s the big deal. ;-)
I have a lot of younger followers, so I posted to tell them that bleach is not the best way to clean your hands, that soap is the best.
Then I said “But that doesn’t mean you should ingest Tide-pods.”
POTUS was just asked the question of why he said these could be injected, by a dumb@ reporter, at the Bill signing.
Just heard it LIVE, now.
Followers?
Yes, it’s my clown cult. :)
(I got a job 10 years ago as a halloween monster at a theme park, eventually getting into the clown scarezone area. I developed a character for my job, called “Chucky The Killer Clown”.
I created a facebook page, and started a youtube channel. I do video logs as the character. While each year I get different makeup and have different roles to play, they are all “played” by my clown character.
And I have a few hundred people who subscribe to the videos, and I guess a few hundred facebook friends for the character.
And most of the haunt monsters are young people, as are the people who are interested in the character; a lot of liberals actually, but also some conservatives, and more than a few libertarians and at least one anarchist. (plus a lot of crazy clown characters, it’s like there’s an organization or something).
It’s the only public thing I do on the internet, my real life is pretty much locked down.
Interesting!
You can portray Nancy Antionettes new look, as she is sporting some serious clown eyebrows, since Congress (FINALLY) returned.
Did he respond to the question?
Yes. He said he was obviously being sarcastic.
I never heard the press hound 0blama or Hildebeast for ANY their comments. About wipe with a cloth or ANY of their inane comments.
Crazy folk.
