The most annoying fan bases in sports Ponder this question: When you say you hate a particular team, are you actually talking about the team itself, or its fans? The players are just doing their jobs on the field, and while there are some whose play engenders blind rage from opposing fans, the real bad blood is created by those cheering for them from the stands (or on social media). From college to the pros, let's take a look at the most annoying fan bases across sports.

Philadelphia Eagles: Bunch of thugs

When you need a judge, a court and a jail in your football stadium, you may have troubles in your fan base.

Philly fans coming from one who grew up in Philly. I have been a Dallas fan for 40 years. You don’t wear the other teams gear up there.

An Anaheim cop told me years ago, the Angels bring in 40 additional cops when when the Angels play the Dodgers, Yankees, or Red Sox. Having been there, I don’t doubt it.

Flyers too. Do not wear a Pens sweater or you’ll get some brotherly loving.

One of my earliest memories of watching baseball was one of the ALCS series between the Yankees and Royals. Every time a Royals relief pitcher was driven to the mound in a car at Yankee stadium, the car would be pummeled by trash from Yankee fans. Of course Yankee fans singing the praises of that little cheater Jeffrey Maier just ads to the hatred.

Boston fans used to be endearing as they would share their tales of woe from Bucky “****ing” Dent to Sugarbear Hamilton getting called for a roughing the passer call in a Patriots v. Raiders playoff game. But now spoilt.

Not surprising to see two Boston-area teams among the top five in that list.

In my experience, New England sports fans are the most insufferable whiners I've ever met. New York fans are bigger A-holes (with the exception of Giants football fans, who tend to be older and wealthier than most), but Boston fans have the biggest inferiority complex you'll ever see. It's probably well earned ... after all, they'll never be as good as New York. LOL.

Many Minnesota Vikings fans.

Bandwagoning schizo boors with severe passive aggressive issues.

That's probably because those are the only games the Angels sell out.

Seriously.

Most fan bases are exactly the same. A few teams have fans just due to their high visibility (Notre Dame, Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, etc ...). Those casual fans can be annoying, but a hardcore Alabama fan is really not very different from a hardcore Ohio State fan.

The reality is that everyone is just cheering for a jersey/helmet design they are used to cheering for. The teams have no real connection to the communities or schools anymore. They are hired professionals.

College teams might have a few more in-state kids that have some sort of connection, and a few of them might actually kinda sorta go to the college like actual students, but that is less and less as time passes.

I remember in the 1978 season there were stories of New Englanders vandalizing cars with NY plates. The family and I went up to Maine that summer but thankfully nothing happened.

In general, I've found that the Twin Cities has the most ignorant, passive fans of them all. Almost everyone I've met is a casual fan who doesn't know anything about the sports they follow -- and generally only gets interested in the local teams when they're good. Most of the other teams in this list have fans who are jerks, but those fans tend to be there in good times and bad.

Minnesota couldn't even generate enough fan interest to keep their first National Hockey League team. MINNESOTA. LOL. That's like the Dallas Cowboys moving out of Texas.
