Medical Underwriter here. I consider it the new snake oil. It makes claims to help everything. But if there’s a placebo effect, or by chance it does happen to help some people, give it a shot. It’s just the supplement industry with a new product trying to separate you from your money.

CBD does not give you the munchies.... THC does.

Go to the ‘weed store’.
Buy her some brownies.
Have her start with ‘tiny’ pieces, slowly.
Magic brownies always gave me the munchies...

Actually, CBD is often touted, with some evidence, for weight loss: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cbd-oil-for-weight-loss

THC is an established appetite stimulant.

Look for ways to increase the calorie content of whatever foods she does eat. Add fat to her diet, cook with butter, olive, avocado or coconut oil.

Heavy whipping cream in her coffee or tea. Pears or peaches in cottage cheese and add some honey and hwc to it also.

Bacon and eggs with avocado slices. Or sausage. Chicken thighs instead of breast meat. Salmon and tuna.

Straight mix a 1:1 honey with olive, avocado or coconut oil and give her a tablespoon 3-4 times a day.

And let her salt her damn food all she wants.

If so, I’d recommend a 2:1 CBD oil 2 CBD:1 THC, a few drops nightly under the tongue. I do not think CBD increases appetite.

I take the above myself and it does not get you high. Not sure it will help you. Doesn’t give me any extra appetite. Good luck.

I have this problem with my 84-year-old Dad on and off. Will she drink a nutritional shake? My dad will drink Boost Plus, which has 360 calories in a shake.

I’ve been here in the background for years, and very rarely comment, however I need to put my 2 cents on record.

1. My mother, at 93 years old and with dementia refused to eat. Desperately, I was able to convince her doctor in the nursing home to prescribe a medical oral marijuana. Yes, it did encourage her to eat when the staff was able to get her to take it. In retrospect, I realized that refusing to eat was the only way my mother could control her life. I knew that she never wanted to be in a nursing home and if she had been able she would have chosen another way out.
2. In regards to CBD. I use it with good results. I have had rheumatoid arthritis for 20 years. Enbrel, Prednisone and Voltaren have kept me functional. I’ve been able to stop Voltaren and reduce Prednisone because of daily dosing of CBD. It’s expensive. Do your homework. If it’s placebo effect (which I sincerely doubt) so be it.

CBD is a byproduct like corn syrup. Total scam.

Stay away from it. It is a waste of money.

"My 85 year old mother ..."

We recently lost a cat at the age of nearly twenty. Several years ago she lost her appetite and lost a lot of weight.

My wife took the cat to a vet who ended up giving the cat a shot which resulted in the cat eating everything we offered it. My wife doesn't know what the drug was but the doctor told her it was also used for humans.

The shot seemed to jump start the cat's appetite and the results were lasting. Perhaps this would work for your mom.

I wonder if your mom’s loss of appetite is just one symptom of a loss of interest in life. That may be harder to address than just a loss of appetite.

Back when it was still illegal, the appetizing aspects of marijuana were such that Oncologists, cancer specialists, would always recommend it. Cancer consumes so much energy that patients often wither away and starve, often nauseous because of their medicine, so unable to eat or drink.

They called it “the ‘m’ herb”. By getting enough food to stay down, it could extend the life of patients by months, long enough for their anti-cancer therapies to kick in.

“Edibles”, foods containing THC, are a good way to introduce older people to it. However, be forewarned that “the munchies” can be peculiar as to what tastes good. So if she asks for weird food, no problem.
