Disclaimer I live in Canada
My 85 year old mother has a poor appetite and she only weights 79 Lbs. My question is have any here tried CBD oil for Appetite Stimulation and does it really work? I'm desperate and am seriously considering getting her CBD gelcaps (0% THC)
Medical Underwriter here. I consider it the new snake oil. It makes claims to help everything. But if there’s a placebo effect, or by chance it does happen to help some people, give it a shot. It’s just the supplement industry with a new product trying to separate you from your money.
CBD does not give you the munchies.... THC does.
“Medical Underwriter here. I consider it the new snake oil.”
Yes. I was going to offer a magic feather.
Go to the ‘weed store’.
Buy her some brownies.
Have her start with ‘tiny’ pieces, slowly.
Magic brownies always gave me the munchies...
Cures everything from hang nails to decapitation
I never got the munchies from smoking weed. Perhaps it was because I stifled the urge to eat so I didn’t lose mu high. After a short while the urge no longer even presented itself. 8>)
I use it topically on my back which is riddled with arthritis and it gives me 4-6 hrs of pain free living. It works for me.
Actually, CBD is often touted, with some evidence, for weight loss: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cbd-oil-for-weight-loss
THC is an established appetite stimulant.
Look for ways to increase the calorie content of whatever foods she does eat. Add fat to her diet, cook with butter, olive, avocado or coconut oil.
Heavy whipping cream in her coffee or tea. Pears or peaches in cottage cheese and add some honey and hwc to it also.
Bacon and eggs with avocado slices. Or sausage. Chicken thighs instead of breast meat. Salmon and tuna.
Straight mix a 1:1 honey with olive, avocado or coconut oil and give her a tablespoon 3-4 times a day.
And let her salt her damn food all she wants.
If so, Id recommend a 2:1 CBD oil 2 CBD:1 THC, a few drops nightly under the tongue. I do not think CBD increases appetite.
I take the above myself and it does not get you high. Not sure it will help you. Doesnt give me any extra appetite. Good luck.
No, I would not give his mom edibles. It may make her unstable and she might fall. Id do CBD oil (with some thc) at night.
If she has no appetite she might not want those delicious things.
I have this problem with my 84-year-old Dad on and off. Will she drink a nutritional shake? My dad will drink Boost Plus, which has 360 calories in a shake.
ETA: He also takes CBD, but only at night for sleep, and after terrible insomnia that made him delirious from sleep deprivation, a few days after he started CBD, he started sleeping through the night.
I can’t credit placebo effect, as he was delirious and didn’t know what he was taking when we started it. But it worked, and when we stopped it for a few days, his sleep was again problematic. So whatever it is, it’s working for him.
Yes and thank you!
I have been on the medical MJ research side for about 7 years.
Pure CBD is showing some promise as a neural protectant, but it is very early.
PURE CBD is a controlled substance. If you want to test this statement, go to an online CBD seller(pure CBD, like Cheeba Chews) and try to get some sent in the mail to your state (assuming you live in a state that does not allow MJ for all)
The stuff on the market, the oils, the “supplements” and such are synthetic and there is no way to know how the CBD was extracted.
Some OTC CBD has been found to have ingredients that are not suited for human consumption.
Finally, pure CBD is expensive, one month supply is around $230 for an average person.
Marinol comes in a tablet and is used for lack of appetite and nausea with good results for all age patients. Her MD can write a script and the pharmacy will dispense.
