You don’t leave valuables in your car in plain view.

It’s not rocket science.

We don’t know that he left it in plain view, do we? It sounds like a targeted hit since nothing else was stolen.

Leaving his laptop in a car doesn’t sound logical...unless it was a setup of someone trailing him.

Obviously. One of our interns last year, it happened to him. Even went on Craigslist to offer a reward. He learned his lesson the hard way. In this one, ever heard of back-up drives? I do this every week.

I would never leave anything in a parked car anywhere, ESPECIALLY IN D.C. John Solomon obviously has not spent too much time in the ‘hood.

I’m thinking he probably does take precautions, so one slip and it’s gone seems suspicious. Although he is largely ignored publicly by the MSMDEM, one can bet they are woefully aware of his work.

I had started a new job as livery driver in staten Island.

Only maybe 8 years ago. I was still quite sick from a years long illness but I could drive, so it gave me something to do until I fully recovered.

I left a CHEAP GPS in my car and forget what a white trash neighborhood it had become.

Got to my car 12 hours later...broken window..stolen GPS

I’ve made the South Shore of Staten Island sound like Utopia. And it is compared to the other boroughs (don’t know about queens).

But there ARE a few white trash neighborhoods spotted about.

And I learned the hard way to never leave anything in the car again.

“You don’t leave valuables in your car in plain view.”

Kind of makes me think it was a setup.

The laptop and press badge were locked inside the car trunk out of sight.

A friend visiting DC left her purse in a car as she made a brief stop to pick something up at a friends house near Adams Morgan/Cardozo area.

Someone smashed her car window and stole the purse within 5 minutes.

Anyone who lives in DC knows this.

Agreed. Solomon is a pretty sharp guy, but he wasn't very sharp leaving a laptop in his car. Pretty dumb.
