How quickly they forget that Australia had a rape epidemic and the numbers are still nauseatingly high.

A glaringly obvious oversight like this makes me question their methodology

My eldest daughter travels all over the world. She has always praised Iceland as the country were she felt the safest at all times.

I have a slightly different take, where America ranking #10 vs #1 is understandable and maybe even preferable. Consider the risk/return tradeoff in investing:

Low-risk assets like cash also yield little return. In contrast, high-yielding assets also carry higher risk.

So, sure, Australia may be #1 - but firearms and concealed-carry are a Dream in Australia. That is the same with most other countries in the top ten.

Thus, the REAL question should be....what are women giving up in countries 1-9 in terms of freedom to defend themselves vs outsourcing it to the state or society?

My daughter went with me to Việt Nam in '07 at 23 years old and '11. She loved that she could travel alone and semi hitch hike in perfect safety. She traveled about while I did not. She says that would not be possible in Massachusetts where she was living at the time.

There were a rash of Muslim rapists in Australia, not sure that is so bad a problem now that the girls have become warier.

Aboriginal men beating and raping Aboriginal women and children in the villages is all too common.

My son’s best friend is Vietnamese. I would love for him to go with their family to the home country some day. They are both only 11 so it would have to wait a while but I’m happy to hear that it is a safe place.
