Hollywood Hated the Gervais Golden Globes Speech, But New Numbers Show America Loved It

Hollywood might want to start listening to Ricky Gervais – it seems like a lot of Americans are.

The British comedian made himself an enemy of the movie moguls but endeared himself to millions of Americans Sunday night when he used his platform hosting the Golden Globes to lecture the glitterati in front of him on what viewers didn’t want to hear from them.

“If you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech,” Gervais said on the ceremony aired by NBC. “You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So, if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your God and f**k off.”

Those words and others from Gervais’ monologue didn’t make Gervais popular to the crowd inside the Beverly Hilton, but television viewers around the country no doubt appreciated it.

As numbers on social media Tuesday showed, Gervais’ speech was still a hit with millions of viewers in the hours and days after the ceremony ended.

The Hollywood commies can dish it out but they sure can’t TAKE it. I didn’t see any of the show, but I’m enjoying the articles about it!

We get three entertainment programs here and they are Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, and Extra.

Last night all three covered the Golden Globes.

But if you only saw Entertainment Tonight or Access Hollywood you would not have known that Ricky Gervais was there because there was absolutely no mention of him whatsoever on those two programs.

Extra mentioned him about 15 minutes into the broadcast and it was a short mention.

He was great! I liked him anyway for his huge support for dogs in bad places around the world. I also loved Afterlife. But this was his most outstanding moment of fame.
I wish I knew who the young woman repeatedly shown laughing is...

One of the best jokes was about the memorial. “Not on my watch”

Someone should ask Gervais: Did he write the speech and/or have to have it approved?

There’s been a ton of bombs this year.

I would not be surprised that people are avoiding going to the movies, especially when they all star idiots who love wagging their fingers in your face and lecturing you.

As Gervais said, F off!

Let’s hope this is the beginning of Hollywood’s realization that only a handful really think their opinion is worth anything. The rest of us could not care less.

The MSM and the Elite think they are the Kingmaker. They really feel they put Donald J Trump in office. They are in for a Rude Awakening.

Tom Hanks was VERY displeased.

What could be better than that?

My bet is he wrote it, but this whole thing is a work. Word of mouth makes him a ratings magnet for this show (or another award/mutual-masturbation event) and he comes back to bigger ratings and bigger ad revenues, and he reverses his face turn.

Vince McMahon couldn’t have got this story better himself.

The Babylon Bee

HOLLYWOOD, CA—Authorities say they are investigating the circumstances which led to a dangerous tear in Hollywood’s protective bubble that keeps celebrities from encountering the festering disgust everyone outside of Hollywood has for them.

Security experts say the breach caused celebrities to encounter opinions from the real world for the very first time. Hollywood’s bubble has been carefully constructed over several decades, keeping the fragile, easily spooked celebs from having to face what life might be like without millions of dollars and constant, sycophantic praise.

“People don’t like us? This is the first I’m hearing about that,” said a puzzled Taylor Swift. “Maybe we should change our attitude... but no. It is the people who are wrong.”

“The guy with the funny accent was up there saying something about people not caring about our opinions,” said Brad Pitt. “It is sad when people are so deluded like that. I hope Ricky gets the help he needs.”

Emergency crews rushed to the breach in the bubble and patched it up, assuring panicked celebrities that Ricky Gervais would be deported and no further critical thinking or introspection would be required on their part.“

Gervais writes hits own stuff. mIf you watch you tube his previous hosting gigs are all the same tone. They gave him time off, but the ratings tanked so they brought him back, Like to see him host the oscars.

I went to Little Women. First movie I have been to in at least 2 years. I really liked it and I was expecting it to have a lesbian sister, but pleasantly surprised that it did not and the movie was not all PC.

I think Hollywood figured it out. "Everyone hates us. If our awards programs reflect this, people will watch!"
