Mayor Pete Buttegeig shows the acceptable way to politicize Christmas, on Christmas Day, and be factually/biblically wrong on every point.
On Christmas morning, Buttegeig, a leading candidate for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, tweeted this:
Today I join millions around the world in celebrating the arrival of divinity on earth, who came into this world not in riches but in poverty, not as a citizen but as a refugee.
No matter where or how we celebrate, merry Christmas.
(Excuse me a moment while I search for a cement wall to bang my head against.)
You see, what Mayor Pete is saying is that if you dont support the government taking your money and giving it to other people who the government deems in need; and if you dont approve of letting in everyone who says the magic word refugee, then its just like youre doing it to JESUS!
Except hes wrong on every count, like his fellow travelers every Christmas, or every time these debates erupt again. And I mean every count.
Jesus did not come into this world in poverty. Neither was he homeless, an annual Christmas false trope of many on the left. Joseph, his father, was a carpenter, a tradesman. That would have made him the very rough equivalent of middle class in the context of his time, which was before our concept of a middle class that developed after the industrial revolution. He had a home and quite likely a wood shop from which he built and sold his craft, as there was a thriving need for carpentry. He was in essence a small businessman.
(And if we take a purely biblical view, Jesus home was in Glory as part of the eternal God-head existing before the creation of the world, which he voluntarily left in order to save mankind. So in no way at all was he born a refugee.)
Neither was Jesus born homeless, which Buttegeig did not claim but his fellow travelers normally do either this time of year or when the homeless debate comes up and they stumble across a Christian.
Jesus was born in a barn because the government (Rome) demanded a census for the purpose of making sure everyone was taxed. The Romans conducted the census by requiring everyone to return to the town of their House. Joseph was of the House of David, so that meant he had to return to Bethlehem. But they arrived late, and everything was full, hence the barn. With Marys pregnancy reaching the point of birth (of course we know what Mayor Pete defends as Marys right even up to this point in her pregnancy) Jesus ended up born in the stable.
Nor was Jesus born a refugee. He had a home and his father had a business. The above story explains why they were in a barn the night he was born. Joseph was following government dictates for tax purposes. Now, Jesus was arguably a refugee in Egypt for some undetermined amount of time when young, but that was fleeing an evil king who was killing every baby in his age cohort because of what the wise men said and the prophecies foretold. Then Jesus returned home.
So, to recap:
Not born in poverty. Not born homeless. Not born a refugee.
Its not just that Mayor Pete did this, and that so many people on the left do this every year. Its that we now live in a society where a leading presidential candidate, and the most preachy Christian politician, feels the need and the potential for political gain to lie about the story of Jesus birth to pander to his base on Christmas morning.
And here I thought Christmas was about celebrating the birth of the Savior of the world.
But hey, Buttegeigs lies got 32,000 likes. So he was right in one respect: Some portion of the Democratic base is totally onboard with this set of lies. They will be repeated next year. And well be here to correct them with the truth.
Trust me, the Roman Empire turned "inconveniencing people" to an art form.
And Jesus was a citizen. He lived in Israel, in the province of Galilee. He was a citizen of Israel, a subject to Rome.
Jesus was not poor. The wise men gave him g-o-l-d. Duhhh
Mayor Pete is an example of living Blasfamy
The Christ would have rebuked him in a nano second. Then after whatever possessed him came out, Jesus would have told him to go and sin no more.
Better thing would have seen what John the Baptist would have said to him.
.so similar to the ChiComs rewriting the Bible, to fit their COMMIE lies.
Good comparison

A lot of this is news to me. Thanks for the post. Clears up a lot of nonsense.
He is as much of a Christian as the current Pope.
Gosh i hate those people tell me what is worse than a self righteous sanctimonious democratic homo?
“But now, a British biblical scholar is challenging the nativity tale, and insists that a closer reading of the Gospel of Luke demonstrates that Mary is more likely to have given birth from the comfort of a family’s upper room....
...This misconception hinges, he claims, on the mistranslation of the Greek word “kataluma”, which has historically been taken to mean inn.
The word is used elsewhere in the bible as a word to mean “private upper room” where Jesus and his disciples ate the Last Supper in the Gospel of Mark. Meanwhile, Luke uses another word - “pandocheion”, meaning a gathering place for travellers - to refer to an inn....
...”The family guest room is already full, probably with other relatives who arrived earlier,” he argues. “So Joseph and Mary must stay with the family itself, in the main room of the house, and there Mary gives birth.”
The manger aspect of the story is easily explained too. “The most natural place to lay the baby” would have been “in the straw-filled depressions at the lower end of the house where the animals are fed”, says Rev Paul.”
“It is reasonable to assume that Joseph had family in Bethlehem and that he was expecting to stay in their guest quarters. What we learn from Luke 2:7, however, is that Mary and Joseph did not use the usual guest accommodation because, literally, there was no place for them.
Many ordinary houses in first-century Judea had a downstairs area to house livestock overnight. Perhaps Jesus was born in this downstairs area of the house. This is plausible considering that Mary used either an animals feeding trough or an animal stall as a place to lay her newborn son: the Greek word phatne used in Luke 2, which has traditionally been translated as manger, has both meanings.
Jesus born in a stable, manger, cave, phatne, kataluma Jewish people are generally fastidious about cleanliness and have numerous laws which cover hygiene. If Mary did give birth to a baby in a place where animals were normally kept, it would have been clean and the animals housed elsewhere.”

Just look to Nancy Pelosi spewing crap to prove her Christian faith all the while supporting/demanding abortions, severely limiting what the church can do or say, etc
The world doesnt need her kind of faith.
Clearly he doesn’t understand the meaning of Christmas so I don’t hold out much hope he will tweet anything truthful at Easter.
LOL! Peter is still trying to shove himself down our throats. Some crackers might like it. Right, Peter? Bros...not so much. Ladies and women...not so much. Respect your girlfriends/wives, men. Thanks.
What do we expect from an unrepentant homo?
He should stick with pagan holidays like Halloween and Winter Sostice? and perhaps LBGT events?
Divinity on Earth was right.
And he’ll get slammed for that from the left.
He posted a no winner for either side.
Also, the Roman Empire was a fascist military dictatorship. Hizzoner would fit right in.
“Divinity” was all he got right . . . he must have been talking that white candy with pecans in it when he said “divinity”.
...This misconception hinges, he claims, on the mistranslation of the Greek word kataluma, which has historically been taken to mean inn.
This guy's theory revolves around his interpretation of the word "inn". I would much rather rely on the interpretation of the Early Church who were native Greek speakers, were closer in time and culture to the original events, and were totally immersed in the Scriptures, For example, St. Theophilus of Antioch (about 120-190 A.D.):
"He who sits at His Father"s right hand, finds no room in an inn, that He might prepare for us in His Father"s house many mansions; He is born not in His Father"s house, but in an inn and by the way side, because through the mystery of the incarnation He was made the way by which to bring us to our country, (where we shall enjoy the truth and the life.)
