Obviously Joseph was a conservative, complying with government mandates and paying taxes despite personal inconvenience.

Trust me, the Roman Empire turned "inconveniencing people" to an art form.

And Jesus was a citizen. He lived in Israel, in the province of Galilee. He was a citizen of Israel, a subject to Rome.

The man is demon possessed.

The Christ would have rebuked him in a nano second. Then after whatever possessed him came out, Jesus would have told him to go and sin no more.

Better thing would have seen what John the Baptist would have said to him.

Jesus was born in a barn because the government (Rome) demanded a census for the purpose of making sure everyone was taxed. The Romans conducted the census by requiring everyone to return to the town of their House....

A lot of this is news to me. Thanks for the post. Clears up a lot of nonsense.

“But now, a British biblical scholar is challenging the nativity tale, and insists that a closer reading of the Gospel of Luke demonstrates that Mary is more likely to have given birth from the comfort of a family’s upper room....

...This misconception hinges, he claims, on the mistranslation of the Greek word “kataluma”, which has historically been taken to mean inn.

The word is used elsewhere in the bible as a word to mean “private upper room” where Jesus and his disciples ate the Last Supper in the Gospel of Mark. Meanwhile, Luke uses another word - “pandocheion”, meaning a gathering place for travellers - to refer to an inn....

...”The family guest room is already full, probably with other relatives who arrived earlier,” he argues. “So Joseph and Mary must stay with the family itself, in the main room of the house, and there Mary gives birth.”

The manger aspect of the story is easily explained too. “The most natural place to lay the baby” would have been “in the straw-filled depressions at the lower end of the house where the animals are fed”, says Rev Paul.”

https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/history/jesus-was-not-born-in-a-stable-says-theologian-9944254.html

“It is reasonable to assume that Joseph had family in Bethlehem and that he was expecting to stay in their guest quarters. What we learn from Luke 2:7, however, is that Mary and Joseph did not use the usual guest accommodation because, literally, “there was no place for them”.

Many ordinary houses in first-century Judea had a downstairs area to house livestock overnight. Perhaps Jesus was born in this downstairs area of the house. This is plausible considering that Mary used either an animal’s feeding trough or an animal stall as a place to lay her newborn son: the Greek word phatne used in Luke 2, which has traditionally been translated as “manger,” has both meanings.

Jesus born in a stable, manger, cave, phatne, kataluma Jewish people are generally fastidious about cleanliness and have numerous laws which cover hygiene. If Mary did give birth to a baby in a place where animals were normally kept, it would have been clean and the animals housed elsewhere.”

Just look to Nancy Pelosi spewing crap to prove her Christian faith all the while supporting/demanding abortions, severely limiting what the church can do or say, etc

The world doesn’t need her kind of faith.

The Holy Family was on the road in order to comply with government regulation. In other words, they were the victims of the administrative state. Creepy Mayor Pete should celebrate that, being a hardcore statist himself.

Also, the Roman Empire was a fascist military dictatorship. Hizzoner would fit right in.

This guy's theory revolves around his interpretation of the word "inn". I would much rather rely on the interpretation of the Early Church who were native Greek speakers, were closer in time and culture to the original events, and were totally immersed in the Scriptures, For example, St. Theophilus of Antioch (about 120-190 A.D.):

"He who sits at His Father"s right hand, finds no room in an inn, that He might prepare for us in His Father"s house many mansions; He is born not in His Father"s house, but in an inn and by the way side, because through the mystery of the incarnation He was made the way by which to bring us to our country, (where we shall enjoy the truth and the life.)
