"Thank you Serbian Chetniks and Serbian villagers from the bottom of our hearts. We are forever indebted to you."

Aleksandra's Note: The above photograph and tribute were posted by Teresa Guidry, daughter of Halyard Mission veteran Staff Sgt. Curtis "Bud" Diles, Jr. of the U.S.A.F. Curtis Diles was one of the "Forgotten 500" who was rescued by General Draza Mihailovich and his Chetniks in the later days of 1944. As a result of his being rescued and returning home safely to live out the rest of his beautiful life before passing on September 10, 2014, 70 years later, 27 people walk this earth today, all because of the rescue of just this one man. The beautiful children and grandchildren of Curtis Diles are a living testament to the legacy of General Mihailovich and his Chetniks, and they have never forgotten their debt of gratitude.

This wonderful family continues to set such a fine example of the fruits of the Greatest Generation.

A personal note to Curtis Diles - They truly do not make them like you anymore, but people such as your children and grandchildren give us hope.

Sincerely,

Aleksandra Rebic

These are the folks that saved our downed pilots when they could. Also the ones Bill Clinton bombed the hell out of. 3 pounds of pull and I’d love to do the honors. God bless those Christians.

Wow— the Chetniks. They don’t teach about them in high school history. God Bless the Serbian Chetniks. And God please— remove the Clintons from this earth and into Screwtape’s region of everlasting pain and damnation.

3 lbs of pull— yes, indeed. The ghosts of millions cry out. Will no one rid the world of these pestilential grifters and murderers.

Hollywood slandered the Chetniks in the movie Force 10 From Navaronne. They were portrayed as Nazi collaborators.

The truth is the Chetniks curtailed their guerilla attacks against German troops when the SS started murdering Serbian civilians in reprisal. Churchill withdrew support for the Chetniks and started supporting Tito's communists instead. Tito didn't care about Serbian civilians. Neither did Churchill apparently.

Sorry I’ve never dug that deep. I just know what B-17 crews wrote after the war. What you said sounds more like FDR and Stalin than Churchill. I worked with a B-17 navigator that flew over Germany a lot during the war. He hated FDR and Stalin. He admired and respected Churchill. All I can tell you.

It has been nearly five years since I was last able to visit the St. Sava Monastery and Seminary in Libertyville, IL; I had been blessed to enter those sacred grounds for several years in succession and, each time, to pray the Trisagion Memorial at the monument to General Mihailovich.

Yes-— Tito the so called “anti-Stalin” was still a freaking commie. What a abomination he was— and of course not going to tolerate a pro-American (even during wartime, when he was supposed to be an “ally”, in that complicated theater). The Chetniks featured in a follow up to Guns of Navarone— as I am recalling (a film cast with a black— Jim Brown— highly improbable as a “secret” warrior- stood out like a sore thumb). Will have to read about the Chetniks and Mihailovitch. It is so sad— like reading about the surviving Romanovs who didn’t get out— who were hunted down by Lenin.
