Al Gore's Masculinity Adviser Naomi Wolf wrote a book about "forbidden love" or whatever.
A central claim of her book is that people were executed in England for sodomy as late as the 1830s.
She bases this on seeing the words "death recorded" on a number of sodomy cases.
It turns out "death recorded" doesn't mean that the prisoner was executed, but that the possibility of a death sentence was noted, and then the judge pardoned them.
This is the central claim of her book and she didn't bother to look up the meaning of the phrase. She just... guestimated.
The cringe, it is exquisite.
This would be professional suicide for anyone who was not a Democrat agitator. For them, there is no such thing as professional embarrassment, just alternate pathways to promotion.
Imagine spending about nine months writing a book and then going out to promote it and only learning then that a "fact" central to your thesis is just completely wrong, and so your entire book is now not even fit to be pulped.
Masculinity advisor, sounds like someone the PHB would hire.
Manbearpig needing one is no surprise.
Lot of phrases and words don't mean what they sound like. "Raze a building" means to demolish a building. "Flammable" means something that can burn. So does "inflammable".
I find it interesting that the word moot means the exact opposite of what most people think it means also

The thesis of her book was that consensual buggery resulted in death sentences.
It turns out to be the exact opposite, they judges did punish when children were forcibly raped, but when it was consensual between adults were overwhelmingly pardoned.
So her book thesis is bunk
Liberals don’t care about academic rigor —
From Wikipedia:
Arming America: The Origins of a National Gun Culture is a discredited 2000 book by historian Michael A. Bellesiles about American gun culture, an expansion of a 1996 article he published in the Journal of American History. Bellesiles, then a professor at Emory University, used fabricated research to argue that during the early period of US history, guns were uncommon during peacetime and that a culture of gun ownership did not arise until the mid-nineteenth century.
They just make stuff up and lie about their research.
It is interesting that the page on LGBT rights includes people convicted of forcible sodomy rape as part of their history and an offense to their rights.
Anyone who "needs" a Masculinity Adviser will not be helped by having one.
And she was made aware of her mistake during a live BBC radio interview, no less.
Inflammable means something that can burn through self-ignition. Flammable means something that can burn only after being ignited by a secondary source.
Someone should ask Ødungo...
Can you find a dictionary that doesn’t list them as synonyms?
“...wrote a book about ‘forbidden love’ or whatever...”
Homosexuality, the love that dare not say it’s name.
Now it won’t shut the hell up!
Then there’s “Ph.D”, which sounds like “doctorate” but actually means “piled higher and deeper”.
I didn’t realize Naomi Wolf was this stupid.
“Al Gore’s Masculinity Adviser Naomi Wolf...”
Hahahahahahaha (gasp!)... Hahahahaha...
No one talking of the vicious gay Roman emperors persecuting christians or the even more corrupt gay greek Ptolemys making war on jews, just because their standards exposed the sexual and fiscal corrupt excesses of tyrants.
So is she just a piss poor liar or just that stupid?
