VIDEO
This is a story I heard since I was a kid but it was so wild I had a lot of trouble believing it. However, a discovery I made on the Web a few years ago revealed that this story was absolutely true as you will find out in this video.

My father was an incredible (and very FUNNY) story teller but this tale really strained my belief... until I found out it was TRUE! HILARIOUSLY TRUE!!!

Awesome! My dad was a comedic magician who got through the Great Depression on grit, daring and talent. You’ve made me rethink some stories he told me that I initially thought were not true.

This is one of those days I wish I could pic up the phone.how he would have loved the story. Those crazy Italians. Yeah, by that time most of the Italian army just wanted any excuse to surrender. In fact, just a couple of months later, after this incident, Italy tossed out Mussolini and did surrender. On top of that Sicily had been violently anti-Mussolini all along. That is why the USA enlisted the help of Lucky Luciano and some other mobsters to help with the locals to facilitate the Sicily invasion and the entry onto the boot of Italy.
One big problem is that those same mobsters were, well, mobsters and immediately began mob activities there such as black market, etc.

What a great story! and a great find!
My father had flat feet - "flat as a duck's feet" he would say; signed up for the Army Air Corps, barely finished boot camp and was sent to the Aleutian Islands to be an airplane mechanic when the war ended.
I'm glad he's not around today to see what a mess the world has become.

My aunt married a man from Italy. He served in the Italian army in WWII. In his early 20s he was captured and sent to the USA as a POW somewhere out west. He loved the Americans. He said he never ate so well. There were 51k Italian prisoners sent to the U.S.. I read 10% married American women.
